This year I decided to go with a winter wonderland theme so that when I inevitably leave the tree up an embarrassingly long time, it will at least transition into winter decor well. I haven't used blue in my holiday decorating in a while. I chose a lighter blue and a navy for some contrast. So that it didn't seem too "cold" I added in touches of gold.
I think my DIY icicle ornaments go perfectly with this theme! I also added my glass etched ornaments.
I reused my wood houses to create a village on the mantel. I painted a couple of them blue. I finally got a tutorial up for how I made the houses.
I added the clay snowflake ornaments to the wreath. Last year I had gingerbread cookies on it and decided that I needed to dress it up again this year.
The snow globe ornaments I made this year got strung together to create a garland. I think it is so fun! It looks great with the pine cone garland and greenery.
I added little white ceramic houses to the shelves and side table with bottle brush trees. I love seeing them tucked everywhere!
And of course, I always add my favorite nativity in a prominent spot in the family room. The painting above it is called "The Shepherd" which I think is appropriate.
I also changed out the artwork above the sofa to winter landscape prints.
This year is extra busy with my second son preparing to leave on his mission. He, like my oldest, is choosing to serve a 2 year mission for our church and leaves December 28th. I chose to keep things simple and only decorate the family room. But it is so fun to walk in through the arch and be met with this little winter wonderland :)
