Oh Man! January has been a doozy. I always take off the first week to regroup and plan for the next year's content and projects, but this year I spent that week in bed. Our family was hit with several rounds of various illnesses. We are not normally sick often so it threw us for a loop. Cleaning and planning is about all I have accomplished so far.
Speaking of planning, I'm sharing my annual "Home Goals" post! I personally love them because it keeps me accountable and is a fun way for me to keep track of past projects and dream of future ones.
Home Goals From 2022 (How Did I Do?)
Backyard Privacy
I was able to complete 2 of the 3 large projects that I had hoped to get done this year. There was the driveway fence, the backyard arbor, and the privacy screen.
The driveway fence still has a couple of panels that are stained but not hung up, if I am being honest. But for the most part, I have checked that off my list.
The arbor was probably my favorite project to complete. I can't wait to plant some vines to grow up it in the spring!
Finish Back Of Yard
This was completed around the same time as we built the arbor. We had flattened the area the year before in preparation for the gravel.
After adding sprinklers, the gravels was raked out evenly. We planted 8 pine trees that will grow relatively fast and also help to create privacy. I'm glad the back of the yard is finally done!
Side of Garage
Before the makeover, it was used as a dumping ground.
We added pet turf of the side of our garage to create an potty area for Kevin, our Frenchie. I painted the window and fixed the broken glass. Shutters finished it off
Downstairs Shower
This one is still not done. Not for lack of funds like is sometimes the case, but because of a lack of decision making. I won't bore you with too many details, but we have 3 options for the shower pan and I kept flip flopping on what I want to do. So, it just sits there for now. BUT, that will change soon!
Cut Flower Garden
I had a dream of growing cut flowers for endless vases of flowers in my home. I was able to grow some of my favorites and learned a lot about flower farming in the process!
Home Goals 2023
Privacy Screen
It is a big project! As in 80 feet long and 12 feet high kinda big. And the privacy screen comes with a hefty price tag too. It will also require us to move sprinkler lines which is the least fun part. But I am hopeful we can get it done this summer (before it gets too hot). It will have vines growing up it and hammock swings hanging from it. We might also add out projector screen to the center for easier set up of outdoor movies!
100 Foot Flower Bed
Along the same fence as the privacy screen, we are adding a large flower bed. I am dreaming of tall evergreen bushes, roses, and a variety of perennial flowers to keep the bees happy.
Garage Makeover (Part 3)
I have one more garage project up my sleeves. I have had the paint for it for a couple of years and just haven't made the time for it yet. It will be a long, tedious project so I have been dragging my feet a bit.
Kitchen Porch Awning
Our kitchen porch faces south and our poor dutch door is so faded already! It also has no protection from the rain and snow. I am hoping I can design and build and awning to help with that issue as well as refinish the outside of the door.
Basement Shower
I am currently working on this one as we speak! It has been a long time coming and I am super excited to finally share it with you later this spring. It is such a tiny room, that I had to be really thoughtful in how we redid it to maximize space.
Lot's More Smaller Projects!
I have had this list of smaller projects for YEARS. They have not been top priority so they keep getting pushed out of the way for bigger things. One of my goals is to blog more which means I need more content which means I finally am going to to start crossing those fun little projects off my list.
I would love to hear about your home goals and the projects you are hoping to accomplish this year! Leave a comment below :)

Oooh! I'm excited for your awning. Please share lots of pics and how-to's when you install it.
Our 1928 cottage has a south-facing back door, and it takes a beating in our winter storms (mostly rain, because we're in Oregon). And as for that summer sun... eeek.
Like you, we definitely need an awning.
I will! I am trying to decide how big to make it and impatiently waiting for the snow to melt :)
Wow you guys did a lot of projects last year. Everything is wonderful. Good luck with 2023 projects. Very talented couple.
Thank you Elizabeth!
You did accomplish much last year! I especially loved your flower garden! It is something I have always dreamed of doing!
Like you, I need a total rehab on a shower in a well used bathroom in my home. I actually need to make it bigger and redo the entire room, but in our case, waiting to have the money is the issue. My daughter is about to buy her first home, and I would rather help her with a down payment then spend it on our own home right now. So maybe in 7-10 years it will get done?
I also need painting done inside my home in every room. So, that is likely to happen this year, but just one room at a time! I will have to contract out for the living room at it has cathedral ceilings and a 17 foot wood stove pipe to contend with. But the rest of the house we can manage!
Thanks for your posts about goals, they are always so inspiring!
So glad you are feeling better after a rocky start to the new year! Hugs!
Thank you! That's why I like to do these posts (and encourage others to make a list for themselves) because you feel like you haven't done very much until you look back. I hope you are able to get your bathroom done sooner than later.
