Can I just say that my mind is blown that we are here. The END of 2014. It has been one heckofa year. This year we went on our first real family vacation. The construction/architecture field has begun to see improvement and Shane was employed the entire year (no layoffs!!!). I became the mother to a teenager and my youngest went to preschool. I traveled a lot for work and got to meet Nate Berkus and film a little show for Better Homes and Gardens. But we had some struggles too. My family had some trials that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. And we are still figuring things out financially after being laid off (on and off) for 4 years. But over all I would have to say it was a good ride. A rollercoaster, but a good ride.
I hope your year had some good highlights that outshined the not so good days :)
I thought I would continue the tradition of sharing my top posts from the year. Some people pick their top posts based on page views, or comments, or how many times a post has been pinned. I just pick some of my favorites :) But they usually end up being the "most popular" ones too. So here we go! In the order they were posted......
Bathroom Shelves
I wish I could say that the bathroom has been completely finished since we posted about the shelves but it looks exactly the same way. No baseboards, light fixtures, or door. But it will happen as soon as I get this book done. It is high on my list I swear. I have LOVED having these recessed shelves. Without them the poor little bathroom would not have had any storage.
Laundry Room
I am going to sound like a broken record because well, the laundry room still isn't finished either. It needs a wall and then flooring. But it is on the list right after the bathroom. Pinky promise.
Story of Our House Part 1 & Part 2
I had so much fun sharing the story of how we came to live in this home. It was quite the journey! I also shared the the real befores of our house that I hadn't posted before. Scarey stuff! Lots of dusty fake flowers, cupids, peachy/pink/rust, mint green, forest green, camo walls with sand added to the paint. True story.
How To Refinish A Table
I decided it was high time to sand off the chew marks and the craters created by forks. My sweet little dining room table needed a refresh. It is simpler than you might think!
Floating Corner Shelves
Do you have a room in your house that no matter how many times you decorate and refresh that you are never satisfied? For me it has been the dining room. But ever since I built the floating shelves in the corner I have been so happy with it!
Backyard Chickens
Are you thinking of raising chickens? This post is for you! Don't want chickens? Still hop on over and see how cute my hens and ducks are :)
Outdoor Movie Seats
We got a projector screen this year and so we had some outdoor movie nights this year. We even had one in late October before it started to get a little chilly. These seats make things much more comfy. Shane even strung some rope through them so when we are done and they fold flat, that they can hang on a hook in the garage.
Abstract Bowl
This project started my recent obsession with melting plastic. *Cough* Phoebe's brother from FRIENDS *Cough* I had fun bending the plastic using a heat gun and even creating fun bubbles here and there.
Card Catalog Side Table
I have been antsy pantsy about finishing our basement so I could have a new master bedroom. But after completing this bedside table I am even more anxious for the day to finally come.
Tree Stump Planter
I can't even tell you how much I love this. I love it so much I can almost forget the arm pain involved to get the son of a gun hollowed out. You know, like childbirth. Memory is rude.
My favorite thing of 2014 was not a blog post so much as the comments on the blog posts. And the emails. My favorite thing was the love and support I feel from all of you who read this little 'ole blog of mine. I appreciate you so much. Just ask Shane. He will tell you how I talk about how lucky I am to have friends scattered all over the world. Friends who I may never meet in real life but who are like minded and who are my own personal cheerleaders. Thank you. I pray we all have an amazing 2015 with lots of growth, good times, and laughter. Love you!!!!
