This is a sponsored post for The Home Depot Foundation that I love dearly. Every thought, opinion, and experience is all mine.
It is almost November which means this year's Celebration of Service campaign is winding down. Team Depot has transformed and improved the housing for 1,000 Veterans over the last two months. But just because the campaign to share the projects with everyone is coming to a close, it doesn't mean the service is. The service projects done by Home Depot employees (on their days off) happen all year long. In the last three years Home Depot has spent over 80 million helping veterans. How can you not get excited about that?!
I have been honored to be involved since 2011 in the campaign. I went to Atlanta and helped create an outdoor area for the Vets staying in a group home.
That year we also had the Give Good campaign. Several families of Veterans who were in need were chosen by bloggers and the public voted on which family should get the $20,000 home makeover. But of course, Home Depot couldn't just pick one. One family did get the $20,000 but the other families received $5,000 to go towards their renovations. The family I chose, The Dilley family, was the one who won the $20,000 makeover. But again, in true HD fashion, it ended up being a $60,000+ makeover! You can see everything that was done in my post.
In 2012 I headed to Miami to work on the outside area gathering area and the landscaping of a new Fisher House. I didn't know what a Fisher house was before this trip. They provide free housing for families of Veterans who are having treatments and care at the VA hospital. You can read more about it in my post.
I also went to Detroit to work on a home that was being turned into a dog training facility and a place for the veteran to stay while they are being introduced to their new service dog. This was one of my favorite events ever. Hearing how these dogs can help Vets who suffer from PTSD was incredible.
I was also able to surprise a Vet from my own town with some Christmas things and visit with his family. My boys loved hearing is war stories (rated G versions of course).
And of course, this year I helped at Jerry's home in Atlanta and at the Valor house in my very own state of Utah :) Both events raised my (stressed out) spirits. I love service!

The Home Depot Foundation partnered with bloggers such as me for their Celebration of Service program. As part of this program, I received compensation for my time. They did not tell me what to say in these posts. The Home Depot Foundation believes that consumers and bloggers are free to form their own opinions and share them in their own words.
