The Fastest Way to Stain a Fence

May 5, 2019 By Stacy 86 Comments

We installed this fence two years ago and up until this weekend we had not stained it yet. It was such a feat just to get it up that we kind of just moved on to other projects and forgot about the fence. My sponsored post for HomeRight this month was an outdoor project so the fence finally got bumped up to the top of the to-do list. I got the fence on both sides of our yard (a total of around 500 feet) stained in an afternoon. I'll share with you the fastest way to stain a fence!     The Fastest Way To Stain A fence When we first moved here we installed a small fence to separate our front yard from the back and I used a brush. It took me all afternoon for less than 20 … {READ MORE}

DIY Outdoor Scoreboard

April 29, 2019 By Stacy 5 Comments

As soon as it is warm enough, my boys start setting up the net for volleyball and badminton. We got a new corn hole game for Christmas so they set that up too. I love that we have a yard big enough to play outdoor games. When I was invited to be a part of an outdoor game challenge, I knew I wanted to make a scoreboard to hang on the fence that would work for all the outdoor games we play. Today I am sharing a simple DIY outdoor scoreboard!     I wanted to make it easy to use so it has pegs that you move around as you score. My youngest had just as much fun moving the pegs as he did playing the game!   DIY Outdoor Scoreboard Supplies: *links are … {READ MORE}

Garden Planning and Crop Rotation

April 25, 2019 By Stacy 13 Comments

It is almost time for us to plant our garden! I started seeds weeks ago and they are doing well. We can safely plant in about 3 more weeks. One of my favorite things to do during the cold winters is to plan my garden layout. I learned early on that if I am not careful about where I plant things year to year, my crops do not do very well. Have you have ever noticed that one year you have a bumper crop and the next year your garden suffer? It is probably because you planted things in the same spot. Let's break down garden planning and crop rotation for you in really simple terms.       Why Should I rotate? The reason why you need to rotate your crops is that … {READ MORE}

15 Must Have Gardening Tools

April 17, 2019 By Stacy 10 Comments

It's the most wonderful time of the year...Spring! Since I have been doing all sorts of prep work in the muddy outdoors and have nothing blog worth to show for it, I thought I would re-share my post about my favorite gardening tools. Whether you are a seasoned gardener,or just starting out, these 15 must have gardening tools are sure to up your gardening game!     I do not like to wear gloves when gardening. I like to feel the dirt between my fingers! But there are times, like when working with prickly raspberries, when I need to protect my hands. I prefer leather work gloves. I already talked about how I keep a gardening journal in my post about gardening planning … {READ MORE}

Life Lately

April 5, 2019 By Stacy 8 Comments

Spring is always such a busy time! Not only with work, but with life in general. Kid's concerts, taxes, yard work (finally!), end of term projects, etc. I thought I would pop on here and give you an update on what has been going on around here and the upcoming projects you will find here on the blog in the upcoming weeks.     First off, we haven't started the flooring project in the kitchen because the sink started leaking again in the same spot. I think it is time to call in the professionals to see if there are better products to use or a different way to configure the pipes. I am at a loss as to why it keeps happening. It seems so simple and yet...drip, drip. We … {READ MORE}

Outdoor Movie Theater Seats

April 1, 2019 By Stacy 64 Comments

Now that it is warming up, I am dreaming of having outdoor movies again. I'm resharing this past project with you today because these outdoor movie theater seats are one of my favorites! As kids we used to run an extension cord outside and take a small TV/VCR combo outside to watch movies in the backyard. I thought now that I am an adult and have a house of my own, that I could do a little better than that. So we got a projector screen to go with the projector we got a few years ago. All I needed now was some seating. These DIY Outdoor Movie Theater Seats are easy to make and comfortable to sit on!     Since I was making four ( and I love them so much I might make even … {READ MORE}

Freshening Up Your Home {Don’t Sweat Your Pet}

March 25, 2019 By Stacy 8 Comments

This post is sponsored by Febreze but all ideas, opinions, and cute dogs named Kevin are all mine :) I love spring! Spring is a time of renewal. I like to take some time to deep clean and freshen up my house before all my attention gets turned to outdoor projects. Spring cleaning isn't just about wiping away the dust, but it also about odor control. Since I live with 5 guys and a dog, I know a thing or two about odor! I will squirt, scrub, burn, diffuse, and spray whatever I need to keep my house from smelling like feet. My favorite thing to use is Febreze! It makes my house smell like fresh laundry and who doesn't love fresh laundry? So let's chat about freshening up your home when you … {READ MORE}

15 Perennial Flowers That Are Easy To Grow

March 22, 2019 By Stacy 3 Comments

Spring is here! Or at least it is right around the corner. Utah can't seem to decide. Soon we will all be outside preparing and planting our flowerbeds. Before you run to the nursery, I thought I would share my favorite perennials. Perennials are plants that come back every year. Here are 15 perennials that are easy to grow! Salvia I love these purple spikes! They are one of the first plants to flower in my beds after the tulips have faded. This perennial does well in hot and dry places and prefers the sun. It will also tolerate part sun. It attracts butterflies and bees and will grow 1-2 feet tall.   Peony Peonies are a favorite of mine for many reasons. They smell amazing … {READ MORE}

Fireplace Makeover

March 15, 2019 By Stacy 100 Comments

Phase one of my sister's basement is pretty close to being done and she will be ready to move things down there soon. Her basement being finished is what sparked all these projects at her house. Today I am sharing her fireplace makeover I finished up this week. Her dining, family room and kitchen are all one big space so when I painted her kitchen cabinets and refinished her dining room table, it made sense to spruce up the living area as well. This project was sponsored by HomeRight. Her fireplace was pretty standard builder's grade and pretty boring. It was made of the same wood as her cabinets and I went through the same process the prep and to paint it. I love the color we chose and … {READ MORE}
