Love Your Home

By Stacy 13 Comments

My sweet friend Melissa Michaels from The Inspired Room wrote the most amazing book on one of my favorite topics….loving your home.

If you have ever met Melissa then you know how completely genuine and passionate she is about what she does. That shines through in her book :)

In the back of her book she gives you 31 days of challenges to help you love your home. They are super simple. I chose this one for today’s post:

“Every room will feel so much better with a touch of life – plants or flowers or other organic elements such as fruits, vegetable, or branches. What organic elements do you have in your home? You can cut branches from your yard, try growing plants (such as succulents or herbs) in your window, or treat yourself to an inexpensive weekly bouquet from the market.”

Adding flowers (and plants) is one of my favorite things to do. They cheer me up! They breathe life into a room.  The tulips finally started blooming in my yard so I took advantage of a free bouquet!

Melissa’s book talks about taking care of your home, finding beauty in simple things, finding the balance of beauty and mess, cleaning tips, using what you have to decorate, arranging furniture, decorating with things that mean something to you, and simple ways to find contentment where you are. It is a truly beautiful book!

Love this! I have a hard time with my house because it feels temporary – we’re still working it and we talk about moving. It makes it hard to love it now because I don’t want to get too attached or comfortable.

I have many friends in your same boat and it is tempting to not do much when you feel like you will be moving on.

I love that little card catalog end table, that is so fun! And the tulips are my favorite flower, I can never be too sad when I have tulips in the house! So grateful for your friendship, and blessed that you are a part of this day . It means so much to me, thank you!!!

I agree… plants and flowers make all the difference! I love how you inject nature into your decor, especially the greens! Now… what’s your secret to keeping them alive? I forget to water, so my fix is using flowers that ‘dry beautifully’… :D

Sounds like a lovely book. It can sure be hard sometimes to be content with what we have.

I love the idea of fresh flowers yet I so rarely pick them up — I think it’s because I don’t have any where close that has nice inexpensive flowers — like Trader Joes (the closest one is about 30-40 mins away)

It is so true, fresh flowers change the way you feel when you are in that space. Such a pretty, welcoming space!
