    Steam Clean Your Bathroom

    By Stacy 296 Comments

It is that time of year when people are falling victim to head colds and the flu. While we snuggle on the couch and wait for it to pass we dream of tropical islands, spring, and coconut snow cones. Or maybe that is just me.

Our family has been lucky in the past and have not gotten sick a lot. Earlier this month we were hit with the most horrendous flu. Before this time, my kids have always made it to the bathroom or at least made it to the bowl by their bed. This time however, it came on so fast that they were making messes left and right. Three things saved my sanity... essential oils, chocolate, and my SteamMachine.

    sanitize-without-chemicals

I ended up making makeshift beds in the unfinished part of our basement since it is right next to the bathroom. I brought in a little TV/VCR combo we have held onto so they could watch the few VHS videos we have left. Then I sanitized the heck out of the upstairs. Healthy people up....sick people down.

If you have ever had more than one kid sick with the flu (especially the "bonus flu" as we call it) then you know the smell came take over your house. I swear it it the worst smell in the universe.

    Pause

I can't believe I am writing about throw up, diarrhea, and toilets.....

    Resume

OK, the smell. I seriously thought it was going to take forever to get my house back to smelling normal. I was doing enough laundry you have thought that would have helped. When I steam cleaned the upstairs bathroom, the smell went away. It smelled (for lack of a better word) neutral. No smell! I figured it was pointless to keep cleaning the downstairs bathroom while kids were still sick, so as soon as they were all well, I steamed the down bath too.

You know how hard it is to clean around all the hinges on the seat? And the knobs covering the screws on the base? Steam them and stuff will ooze out that will haunt your dreams. You will be grossed out that it has been there the whole time.

    steam-cleaning-a-toilet

Pretty much everything gets steamed in the bathroom. I steam not only the toilet but the sink, shower, door, and the tile. There are different attachments you can change out depending on what you are cleaning. You can even clean windows, but not when it is cold outside. You don't want to risk the glass cracking.

I pretty much steam everything in my house. I have even used it on my oven and Shane's old beater car.

Alright, so who is ready to win one?!? One lucky reader will win a SteamMachine from HomeRight.

Let's keep it simple this time and just leave a comment telling me what the first thing you would clean would be. Giveaways ends March 2, 2016.

*Open to US residents 18 years and older. Winner will be chosen by random.org and will be notified via email. The winner will have 48 hours to respond or a new winner will be chosen. The prize will be shipped by the company HomeRight.

SteamMachine - everything included in box

    GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED

The first thing or place to be cleaned would be the bathroom. To imagine what all can be in a bathroom is kind of gross and we clean it all the time. The next place is my parent's bathroom. They are older and I can not get there as much as I would like but I would love to make sure that their place is clean as well.

Does "my entire house" count as the first thing I would steam?! We have three rescue animals (2 cats and a dog), so this would be so amazingly helpful for us! My husband has Type 1 diabetes and sickness really wreaks havoc on his blood sugar. This would be great for when I'm sick and trying not to get him sick!

I have 4 young boys...3 of them have been potty-trained in this house and #4 will have his turn this summer. I NEED this to super-clean our bathrooms. We've had a few rounds of the "bonus flu" too and I'm typically on my knees, with a toothbrush and bleach solution, cleaning around the toilets and the grout to try to eliminate the smell. Thanks for sharing honestly about this use of a steam cleaner. I'm going to check out your other uses of it now too. Thanks!!

I would clean my toilet, and then the rest of the bathroom. I have several rescue cats, and they all seem to gravitate to the bathroom. We have even taken the lid off the tank, because so many of them like to drink the water. I don't know why...I haven't a clue. They stand on the toilet seat and drink. I also have one who will climb in the bathroom sink and sleep. We have no children, just hubby and I, so we make do. Not so good for our guest. I really need this.

Flu has invaded our home as well and with our oldest daughter being a teacher, we keep grandkids when they are sick. To say the least, I have done my fair share of scouring, scrubbing and nurturing from a distance as much as possible. That steamer would have come in handy but would b e a lifesaver with the 15 year old Jack Russell who has moved in. Since we are his "nursing home" we attempt to make his life as wonderful and non-restrictive as possible. That being said, he is old, virtually blind and deaf so accidents are not daily by any means but they are not uncommon. With that steamer I could be the quickest draw in the South...instead of this filly carrying a six shooter I would holster one mean steam shooter! If germs want to call me out for a dual that is just fine but they would be wise to just take the next transport out of this house (town) Germs would have because they just aren't welcome here.

My bathroom needs sooooo much help, it's ridiculous. We have yet to be able to pull the carpet up from the floor in the bathroom and replace it with tile, so it always has that kinda stinky bathroom smell (I have 3 guys in the house). We do our best keeping it clean, but it always seems to get dirty so fast. This steamer would most definitely help with that!

If I were to win the steamer, the first thing I would clean is my old oven.

My son and his fiancee will be married next month, and have purchased an older home. My soon to be daughter in law asked for our old oven. Because we are in the middle of a kitchen renovation and will get new appliances, my soon to be daughter-in-law asked if they could have my old oven. Of course, she can have my oven. But it desperately needs cleaning before I give it to her.

So I would clean the oven before they take it to their home.

Tough choice between the window tracks and that pit of despair that is the track for the sliding door on my minivan.
