Dress up box

By Stacy 4 Comments

I am posting this now because I think everyone should have one of these and it is the perfect time of year to assemble one. I put all of our dress ups in a large plastic tote (18 gallon). They are about $3 or $4.00 each. You could also find an old trunk. My playroom isn’t too fancy so I don’t mind the plastic tote, but if you were trying to incorporate this into your decor, a trunk or old suitcase would look better. Here are a FEW of the MANY things that are in ours.

This knight armor is our latest addition. They are being sold at the Dollar Tree right now. $1.00 for the helmet, $1.00 for the breastplate, $1.00 for the set of arm guards. They have more pieces too that we chose to not get. Dollar stores are a great place to find dress ups especially close to Halloween. For those of you with little girls, the Dollar Tree has fairy/butterfly wings, boas, some other cute things.

My boys went through a break dancing phase a while back (thanks to my husband) and they created these looks all by themselves. They turned some of their pirate booty into bling.

I made this caveman look. It is half a yard of clearance fabric with a hole cut out in the middle and then I cut the bottom all jagged. It makes playing dinosaurs so much fun!

I wish I had a better picture of this one. They loved playing Indians last summer.

What little boy doesn’t like pretending to be a policeman? Cops and robbers is a popular one here at our house. The policeman uniform was from Walmart in their toy section.

Some of the other things we have: Fireman, safari hats + binoculars, green glittery hats to be leprechauns, cowboys, pirates, doctor stuff, carpenter, super hero, and more but I am totally blanking right now.

My Favorite places to get dress up are: dollar stores, Oriental Trading, secondhand stores (DI, Savers, Salvation Army, etc), and any store at their after Halloween clearance sales. Keep your eye out for good deals and soon you will have a dress up box that your kids will love! Mine is the MOST played with thing in the whole playroom. And grandmas, this would be great for when your grandkids come to visit. My mom has one with all of our old Halloween costumes from when we were growing up. Happy hunting!!!

I wouldn't have even thought to look at the dollar store for dress ups! Great idea!

I love the Indian tent, my boys (mostly Max) would just love it! I'll have to have Danny take a look at it and make it, since I'm not the least bit creative. Thanks!

Great idea! I'm slowly gathering dress up clothes for my daughter to take with her when she babysits. Keeps the kids entertained and parents love it!

I love the tee-pee in your back yard! Did you make that for your boys?
