    Planter Boxes on the Fence!

    By Stacy 17 Comments

Idea #6  Break up large spaces

Do you have a long fence, or is the back of your house flat? Add a little something to large spaces to help break up the monotony.Pops of color, unique decor, frames, signs, something!

Our yard is super long. That means our fence is super long. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE having a fence but it isn't the most attractive thing in our yard. I decided to add some planter boxes. I build a simple planter box and painted it the same blue as the flower pots and chair. The I screwed them directly onto to fence. I had the bottoms rest on the cross board for extra support.

Make sure it has some drainage. I used 2 boards for the bottom so the water could leak out through the crack where the two boards met. You can also drill holes.

Here is the before. Notice the color of the fence is different? Our fence is new and I am not patient enough to wait until is has aged to that nice grey color. I watered down some grey paint and white grey washed the fence. I am not all the way done yet (hey, it is a LONG fence!) but it went a lot faster than I thought.

Love the planter boxes! Such an easy way to pretty up a fence. Love the grey color, too. There's nothing wrong with helping mother nature along. Thanks for sharing.

Oh man....those are SO CUTE! I love the color. Do you think they would dress up the hideous chain-link all across my back yard? What? Chain-link is unfixable? I know! So depressing. Still....these are fab and one day I will get a for real fence. (but no chicken poop shoes....because I just can't go there!)

I am so thankful for such a great idea!
I keep looking at my fence in my backyard, thinking there must be something I can do to this fence to give it a little something. Well I think this is that "something"
      Thank you!!
