    Kilim Inspired Painted Rug

    By Stacy 152 Comments

I have a giveaway for a $200 Home Depot gift card at the end of the post sponsored by The Home Depot so make sure and read the whole post!

I posted about my love of Turkish rugs awhile ago and how there was a runner I was obsessed over, but that I didn't need a runner. What I really wanted was a smaller rug for my entry. I found it was very hard if not impossible to find one I loved in a smaller size that would fit in my small front doorway. I decided to take matters into my own hands and paint one!

    This was the inspiration:

Or at least the section of it that I wanted to recreate. It is long!

    rug inspiration_edited-1

I have the FULL TUTORIAL over on Home Depot's  Apron Blog. But here is a little teaser....

Hand painted rug inspried by Turkish kilim rugs

What do you think?  I decided not to add all the tiny details because it would be adding paint on top of paint and it would have gotten crusty.

    hand painted kilim rug

I am actually thinking of *maybe* putting this in my kitchen. I will have to see what it looks like in there when I get the kitchen done (IF it ever gets done!)

Also, hop on over and see what my cleaning tips are to keeping my entryway  spiderweb free, scuff free, and all around clean :)

Now let's giveaway a gift card shall we?

That looks so great! I love it! We have a small entry which is basically just a bank of doors - staircase to upstairs, basement entryway, closet door, door to garage. Haven't figured out how to decorate/style the area...but we do have the space for a big, beautiful rug.

My entry is nice but hard to decorate. It's octagon shape with 4 wall and 4 entry ways to dining room, living room, stairway. Feel like I need a big round table in the middle with a beautiful arrangement on it but that feels very "hotel lobby" to me. Love your rug!!

My entryway is just a covered porch that I share with my neighbor. It's not very exciting! They have very strict rules here about what we can put out on our porches/patios, so I'll have to wait until we're not renting anymore to really give it some character.

We don't have much of an entryway in our house. The front door opens up right into the living room, however, I have a vision for a few things that could spruce it up & bring some separation, like a hutch or small cupboard for shoes, a new welcome mat (for the outside). Since we have extreme lack of storage space, I would probably use this gift card to help purchase some creativr storage shelves, cabinets, etc. Thanks for this giveaway!!

I like most of my entry but I don't like my front door. It lets in lots of light but it is half glass and I want more privacy. It is also just a little too narrow, other than that, it is fine.

I don't love that I don't have an actual entryway - the front door opens up straight into the living room. We also don't have a coat closet any where near the door so our guests' coats never get hung up nicely. #whatwerethebuildersthinking?

I've had to redefine what I think of as an entry way because our front door opens to the stairs and our living room. I've decorated the corner so as to make it welcoming and reflect our values while separating it somewhat from the other two spaces.

I like that my entry is open and bright but because it's so open there is nowhere to put a table or anything to personalize it. A rug on the tile is the only decorative thing there.

Now it's quite functional. It's a drop off spot for mail, keys, purses and makeup. Those buffet drawer have all been put to good use. Thanks for the giveaway!

My entry is fine but I'd love to change the tile on the floor since it's been the same for over a decade and I'd like something a bit fresher.

We are just about to close on a house half way across the country! I've loved my current house, and my new house is a completely diffrent style. I've been pinning like crazy getting new ideas for every room in the place. so do I like my new entry? Not really, but it's going to be an awesome place to refinish!

We have a split-foyer, where our entry leads to two staircases, one up and one down. The tiles could stand to be replaced, but overall I like it.

I sort of like my entry but it does need a good sanding and a couple of coats of polyurethane. It's just a pain because its our main entry into the house that we use. With Spring here, its time to refresh the floor and open the windows

Wow, the painted rug is so close to the inspiration! It looks SO good. :)

It depends on which one. The one we use all the time is a work in progress, the front door entry is nice. Let's face it, we just moved into this place so there is a long to do list to make it ours. The selfie wall is up and that always makes me smile. (We had our friends take ridiculous selfie pictures and send to us)

We don’t have too much of an “entry” because our front door opens into the dining room/living room. Not really sure what to do there tho so maybe I can get more ideas from you :-) Thanks for the chance.

I like my entryway, but we don't use it often. We use the garage to come in (actually parking in the garage), so the front area actually stays nice. We manage to pile all the incoming paper/mail/junk near the garage door instead of the front door.

I don't really have much of any entry. When you walk in the door, there's a closet behind the opened door and then a tiny wall before you walk right into the living area. It would be nice to have an entry way where I could have a table...maybe someday!

I don't really have any entry either. When you open the front door, there is a closet behind it and a small wall to the left. There isn't much to decorate. Someday I'd like to have enough room in a home to have a table in my entryway.
