How To Decorate Around A TV

    By Stacy 13 Comments

Oh the television. They keep getting bigger! And it brings up a good question. How do we decorate around them? How do we hide them or make them less noticeable? In our latest installment of "He Said She Said" we talk about this very topic.

What do you do to hide your TV?

What clever ideas have you seen others do?

Or do you not worry about it at all?

LOL, nothing really, I think a tv is a tv and it doesn´t need anything to be camuflaged with...so sorry, I´m like your husband but love the other things you do in your house...

Well, we have built-ins in our family room, so our TV just sits in there, haha. But we have a second one in our den upstairs and it's just sitting there all lonely and sad. I need to get a gallery wall around it.

Hide it? Really? I am such a strange woman it seems. I want to flaunt it. Well, once we get something larger than our current dinky 50" I will. Bigger is better! I would like to wall mount it and surround it with some other artwork but only because the wall its on is huge and blank and seems empty (which is why I need a bigger TV!) Our public living space is one giant, open concept, vaulted ceiling-ed room with kitchen, dining and living space so I think the TV should be the focal point from any spot in those rooms.

I wouldn't worry so much about it if it were just a family room. But this is our front room and the room people enter when they come to our house. So I would like the option to hide it when we have company over. I would love to add on a living roon one day :)

We recently (within the past year) finally hung a flatscreen tv above our fireplace. I fought having it there, as I didn't want it to be the "focal point" of the room...but the furniture placement of our living room just really worked better with it there.

As far as size of tv, I actually looked at audio/video sites and looked at recommended sizes of tv for the size of the room for best viewing. We have a 42", and this was the smallest I could get the hubby to agree on.

We watch too much TV in the living room to worry about hiding it. Bigger is definitely better if you are TV junkies like we are.
We do have a smaller TV in the office and I hung a gallery wall around it to make it "prettier". You can see it here if you are interested: http://thejunkhouse.blogspot.com/2013/10/his-hers-gallery-wall.html

Oh my gosh, you guys are so cute! And I totally agree with you that the TV should be hidden, although mine is not. I totally love this idea. But, let me ask what do you do with the components? Like the Blue Ray or the Satellite box. Do you hide those as well? And WHERE? :)

The electronics are hidden in the fireplace I built. I still need to post about how I built it.

Stacy, I'm with you - hide it. Love what you've done to disguise your TV - very creative. We have a 32" set in a very narrow family room. It is on a media console and I've placed a gallery wall around it and decorated the shelving on the console. I'm happy with it, but if our TV was in our front room, I would definitely hide it with something like you have done. Cheers, Winnie

I don't hide any of ours...I wish I could but I know my family would complain....that's in the way of the remote signal....why did you do that???? etc. but I would certainly love to have them not be so noticeable.

We don't hide ours either, but I do try to accessorize around it so it doesn't look so cold and sterile. The DVD player is my thumb sore. For some reason, I can't stand seeing that thing sitting there!
