    Fun Finds {Spice Jars}

    By Stacy 15 Comments

Every once in a while I come across something that I fall in love with or I find a really good deal on something and I tell my friends and family about it. I have decided to share them here on the blog as well. At first I was going to post on Fridays to go wit the "f" theme, but since I never know when I will come across a fun item to share, I decided to just do it randomly.

When I took down my upper cabinets in an effort to make my teeny tiny kitchen feel a bit bigger, I knew that whatever I put on the shelves needed to be.... umm... not an eye sore. The plastic kid cups, tupperware, and boxes of crackers are all in the pantry and lower cabinets. My spice jars were also shoved out of sight. The problem is I use them all the time and I needed them to be on the shelves. I should have taken a picture of my poor spice bottles before I transferred them. They were just the plastic bottles from the grocery store that the spices come in and had ripped paper labels. They were all sizes and shapes since they were all different brands. I went on the hunt for some nice spice jars and found them on Amazon of all places.

They were really inexpensive (about $15 for 12 jars) so I ordered 2 sets. I think I am going to get another one!

I knew they had metal screw lids but was pleasantly surprised that they also had the plastic lids with holes. Not only that but they also come with labels.

I was worried that they would be really small but they are about the same size as a regular spice container from the grocery store.

Over Christmas while my sister was here visiting she saw them and asked where I got them. I told her and she ordered 2 sets right on the spot. I have really liked having them out in the open too. Before when I had them in the cabinet I had to take them all out to find the right jar.

How do you organize your spices? A rack, on the counter, shoved in a cabinet like I use to?

These are nice! I found some neat ones at Target this fall. They had two sided top openings which is nice. I like yours they are straight up and down very simple and clean. Nice!

I didn't even think to look at Target! And that is nuts because I look there for just about everything else :)

VERY fun find!! :)) Thank you for the link also. How do you label your spices with the date of purchase? Sticker on the bottom? Time flies and I have found spices that were ... um... vintage. lol
      Thanks!!!

They also come with round stickers that you can put either in the top of the bottom. I'm not sure if they are meant for the date information or not but that's what I used them for :)

I've been meaning to fix my spice cabinet too! Thanks for the "fun find"! Also, for the previous comment about putting the expiration date on a sticker on the bottom, thanks for the great idea! Time DOES fly! Lol

I forgot to mention that these jars come with round stickers that either can go on the top of the lid of the bottom. That would be a good place to write the date!

When I designed my kitchen remodel in 2000 I had a cabinet made beside the refrigerator for spices. It is 30" wide, 4" deep, and 6' tall. Two doors on top, two on the bottom, and adjustable shelves about every 5". All my spices are alphabetized. My cabinet maker insisted I'd never fill it, what a waste. Boy was he wrong! LOL

That sounds dreamy! Leave it to a man to think you would never fill it. Ha! I'm sure everyone who sees it has kitchen envy :)

When we remodeled our kitchen, my husband removed the doors from the cupboard that sits on top of our microwave.
Our microwave is above our stove.
He made a box, painted it black, added three shelves that hold 27 metal tins of spices, and recessed it into the allotted space.
I made labels on the computer using avery stickers and LOVE this little DYI project!!

I buy spices at Trader Joe's, and recycle them when they are emptied. Any spices that I can't buy at Trader Joe's I just put into the cleaned and empty spice jars. Now, all of my spices are in identical jars, and it didn't cost me anything!

Dang it! You made me order two sets.? I love the idea of my spices being in unified, see through containers.

I could not get the link to work. Could you tell us where to find them? I am not sure how feasible this would be..but it might be fun to try to etch the name of the spice on the side...that way you would never have to worry about losing the sticker. Very cool...I definitely want to order two sets as well. You are definitely not helping my "no shop January"! ;-). Thanks for sharing!!!!!
