Cooking with an Electric Pressure Cooker

    By Stacy 52 Comments

My darling friend Cami, from the blog Tidbits, emailed me and asked if I wanted to have a copy of her new book all about cooking with electric pressure cookers. Wanting to be a supportive friend, and wanting to get my hands on what was surely going to be a gorgeous book, I said yes. One problem, I hadn't jumped on the electric pressure cooker bandwagon and didn't own one. I have a tendency to hesitate every time something "new" comes out. I wait until enough people I know have one and see if it is really lives up to all the hype. Anyone else out there do that?

Cami wrote this book with her equally talented sister, Marci. The photography is stunning!

Well, I was considering it and Cami said she prefered the Fagor brand to Instapot so I contacted Fagor and they sent me a 6qt cooker to try. When the cooker and the book arrived, of course the first section I looked at was the dessert. Oh my goodness! It looks like I need to get a spring pan!

There is everything from breakfast, to dinner, to sides, to sauces.

I'm not going to lie, even though I have used a regular pressure cooker, I was a bit nervous to give it a go so I decided to try something simple for my first time. I had just winterized the garden and had dug up the rest of our rainbow carrots. I LOVE steamed carrots with lots of butter so I knew that was what I was going to do first.

Fagor 6 quart electric pressure cooker

Oh my goodness! It was SO EASY and SO FAST! I think I will need to get rid of my steamer because all my veggies are getting cooked this way from now on. Not only is it fast, but it locks in the flavor and color. They were so yummy!

The next thing I am going to make is this cranberry applesauce. We are having family over the day after Thanksgiving for turkey sandwiches and other leftovers. I think this would be the perfect addition to that lunch :)

Rumor has it you can cook frozen chicken breasts in about 10 minutes. WHAT!? Now every time I realize I don't have a dinner plan at 5pm I can still whip up a great dinner. Let's be honest, that is most nights.

    Giveaway!

Cami is generously offering to give away a copy of her book. It would make the perfect Christmas gift too!

I was given the book and the electric pressure cooker to review. The opinions were 100% my own :)

      Hi!?
My favorite meal is like a stew or a sauce or a chili! Something that cooks most of the day and smells your whole house up,giving it that cozy warm feeling.
On a sad note, I purchased an electric pressure cooker 2-3 years ago and I'm very intimidated by it. Ive used it once and there it sits. I LOVE to cook so this is troublesome!
Thanks for the reminder about being able to throw frozen food in it.
Maybe today's the day I get my "gumption" up and try something.??

Most definitely it would have to be white chicken chili with lots of jalapenos. Our family loves hot foods!

My family's favorite meal is always roast beef, mashed potatoes, and gravy. I seem to create a mountain of pots and pans in the sink but no one minds the clean up!

I've had a pressure cooker for many years but have been afraid to use it, fearing it would blow its seals and damage my kitchen (remembrances of my Mom's experiences). I realize I'll never use it and will be discarding it. I'd love to place my trust in an electric one!

Our family’s best meal is a roasted chicken (whole) in the crockpot. Season salt on top and let her go on low all day. Make gravy, mashed potatoes and a salad. I dont have a pressure cooker, but it is on my ‘want/need’ list.

It’s pretty cool this time of year so I make a chicken and rice porridge seasoned with garlic and ginger called arroz caldo. I particularly like cooking a whole roast chicken because it is so easy and I can use the leftovers for a whole bunch of other dishes.

I'm almost ready to hop on this bandwagon, too! Everyone is raving about the ease of cooking, the multiple options and the taste of foods cooked in one. I could get rid of my crockpot for one thing. And I love cooked veggies but I know that I cook all the flavor out of them on the stove. I'm going to check out some on Amazon. Thanks for the post.

To be fair and honest, I no longer cook in my house. That's right! After decades of it with no appreciation I gave up! BUT my husband now, cooks every meal with a great deal of appreciation and love! He makes the most delicious meals with a few spices and chicken. I don't know how he continues to amaze me!!! He has been interested in this kind of cooking for a while, yet like you, he is hesitant to purchase the cooker. Perhaps with a little inspiration...like a cookbook, he may take the plunge too! Thanks for the opportunity! Your rainbow carrots look extraordinarily yummy!!!

Also I really love mixed roasted vegetables. All the different flavors keeps you eating more than you would think. Nothing is wrong with filling up on veggies!

I do not have a favorite meal, only because I do not know how to cook. I know cliche, but I did not have a mom growing up. I grew up with nothing but boys so lets be honest, they were def not going to teach me. I have 4 hungry babies and a very hungry husband and I honestly want to learn. I've tried recipes on fb but they always turn out nasty and its just left there to throw away. I received the multi-cooker for my last Christmas from a friend, because she knows I suck at cooking lol, but its just been sitting there as decoration. I will def be getting your friends cook book :)
