    DIY Concrete Vase

    By Stacy 11 Comments

I have only done a few projects with concrete but I am starting to see why some have such a fascination with it. It is a fun new medium for me and you may see more projects using it in the future!

Things made from concrete tend to be viewed as modern or even masculine so I loved the idea making a vase and adding a romantic, traditional flower. I love the mix of hard and cold with something soft.

This vase is really not that hard to make! I had so much fun I made a pair :)

ranunculus in concrete vases - This vase is a simple DIY!

First of all, you need to think about what shape you want to make. Simple is best since you will have to get the concrete out of the mold once it has dried.

    Simple DIY concrete vase

    Supplies:

    1 large plastic bottle

    1 smaller plastic bottle

    pen

    box cutter

    rapid-set concrete

    mixing bowl or bucket

paint stick or something to stir with

    water

    funnel

    Step 1

For my larger bottle I chose a shampoo bottle.  Using a spray paint lid, I traced a circle around the top so I knew where to cut.

    trace-top

    Step 2

Using the box cutter, cut the top of the bigger bottle off.

    Step 3

Now that your mold is ready, it is time to mix the concrete! Follow the directions on the box carefully to ensure the best consistency.

    Step 4

I used a plastic funnel to help fill the bigger bottle. Fill it ¾ full of the concrete mixture.

    Step 5

Once it is ¾ full, tap it on the work surface to remove any air pockets. Get the second, smaller bottle (in this case a hairspray bottle) and push it into the concrete. Make sure not to push it all the way to the bottom. Use you finger to smooth out the top.

    Step 6

Once the concrete has completely dried, cut a slice down the side of the large bottle so you can remove the bottle from the concrete. Once it is out, cut the top of the smaller bottle off so it is not visible when looking at the vase.

Now it is ready to fill with water and flowers! Ranunculus are my favorite! I ordered these from the local florist and the color did not disappoint. If I were rich, I would demand that there were always vases and vases full of ranunculus flowers every day of the year.

What about you? What flower would you put in a concrete vase? Do you have a favorite?

Love them. Wasn't sure what to expect, but when I saw your blog, I was wowed. Looks like fun. I've done repair work with cement that had lots of pebbles in it. Yours looks like cement only. I think you could have fun playing with different types for different looks. I suspect the kind full of pebbles would make it hard to push the inner bottle down into the wet cement, but maybe a different sized pair of bottles would let you fill in around the already inserted inner bottle. The ranunculus look fabulous. Can't pick an all-time favorite flower, but surely ranunculus would be right up there.

Hi, it is a nice article.. appreciate for sharing.. but when ever you read and I found a lot of info how to make these cement vases or jars..no one says what type of concere or cement using. I wanted to make jars for my own purpose and I just bought cement mixed with sand.. and first of all it doesnt set even after a week waiting, second it doesnt come out such light and third when i mixe it it just not creamy ..it is very heavy consistence.. so just one question what exactly cement to buy?:D
      THANK YOU
