    Blue Velvet Bench

    By Stacy 14 Comments

Some of you may have noticed a new addition to the family room in my post earlier this week about the book jackets. I bought a bench! My DREAM chair was a navy blue tufted wing back chair. The one I wanted was around $1,200. A tad out of the budget for me. I found this gray one for next to nothing on the online classifieds and it was brand new! I love when rich people impulse buy and then it doesn't work out :) Anyway, after living with it gray I decided to keep it as is and save the money it would have cost to reupholster it.

But that caused a problem because I had recovered and old bench in gray fabric to go under the window. I decided to put the gray bench in the basement (my new future bedroom) and get this navy bench for the family room.

It was only $149 so it was less than what it would have cost to reupholster the chair. Plus it has storage!

Since our living room is the first room you walk into when you come inside the front door, it has to function as both a family/living room and a front room for when guest visit. All the things like books, games, blankets, DVDs, and toys have to be either out of sight or stored beautifully.

The color of this bench is perfect. Not too dark and not too light. I will say that the fabric is cheap and comes off almost like a crushed velvet. I don't love that. But for the price, I wasn't too surprised. I live with 4 boys so I think it will work out great for what we need it for.

I found it on several sites online but the best price was Furniture Crate. I had never bought anything from them but went for it. It took a long time to ship (about a month) but it arrived in great shape the customer service was helpful. *This is totally not a sponsored post BTW.

Living in a small house, double duty furniture is a great way to maximize space. Do you have any pieces that are multi-functional?

Love the idea you put a cushion on top to make a seat.

I put a similar style, but floral print bench in my bathroom as I needed somewhere to sit to dry off and the storage is a huge plus! It looks like a salon in there now! Who knew? Love your added piece to the living space and love what you have stored in there!

I use the base to my dining room hutch as a TV stand! It is also great for storage. We are in a small apartment and just don't have room like we used to in our house. I also use the small matching dining room buffet as a side table next to our sofa. I love that I can have a little vignette to change seasonally right there by the door and next to my sofa. I surprised myself at how nice these pieces look and function in my living room! Your bench looks great!

Love the bench. May not be your dream chair but a good choice for the time being. Love that feather pillow, too. Wish I had some brilliant contribution to make but, alas, I have zero decorating skills.

I love the blue bench! My sofa is about that color. Wouldn't it be awesome to be that rich person and buy that perfect piece of furniture?? Although, then we wouldn't be doing any DIY, would we?!

I know what it's like to live in a small house with minimal storage and this bench is not only functional but beautiful as well! Love your pillow choices too!
