    Kitchen and Dining room Progress!

    By Stacy 116 Comments

Whew! I didn't necessarily intend to take a break for two weeks, but I suddenly realized that school was nearing for my kids and I wanted to make the most of the last bit of summer vacation. We had days full of snow cones, playing with our new dog, hiking up the canyon, and movies in the backyard. And while I did work on some projects, most have not been photographed much less edited and written up.

I do however have some progress to share with you today! We installed a new door and I painted it blue. Shane helped me one Saturday to install the door and we gave ourselves what we thought was a very generous 2 hour chunk of time. It took us ALL DAY. I sometimes forget that when you have an older home, that things are never as easy as it seems. But the door, the wall, and our marriage is still intact. PS the worst time to argue over a DIY project is on a Saturday when all your neighbors are home and your door is off..... :P

    cobalt blue door

I painted the hallway door blue awhile back and shared my tips on painting doors. I will never use a brush again. Ever since I started using my paint sprayer there is no going back. It's so much easier!

I have LOVED having them paint blue!

I also finally got the ceiling painted in the kitchen to match the dining room. I'll have a tutorial on that later. I also added some color to my chalkboard by hand painting a turkish rug inspired pattern around it. More on that later too!

colorful dining room - I love the blue door!

Most of them are white, and one that's a boring shade of pale beige. I love your blue doors and I'd love to give mine a makeover! And I totally understand how a 2-hour project can take all day. I, too, live in an old house and absolutely nothing is plumb. Putting in my screen door was like trying to put a square peg in a round hole. (And I try to avoid working with DH because we never agree on how to do anything.) I'm glad you took time off blogging to spend with the boys--they'll be gone before you know it.

I'm off to go read your post about painting doors, I think I could start with our garage door that leads into the kitchen for my first try

I can only image how easy a spray would make it. i've told you how my dad was a furniture builder and him and my brother always used a paint sprayer to finish furniture, and I don't have much luck with spray paint cans

One is typical white, but brown on the inside and the back down is white on the inside and brown on the outside. I just saw a screen door painted the same color as your door. Anyways, we have to paint all of our doors, they are mess and ugh!! Seven doors. This would be perfect. Fingers crossed. lol!!!

This is so cool. I could really use one of these to touch up the chipped nasty paint in the place that I just moved into. It was built in the late 1890's and needs some help.

I have new closet doors to paint so this sprayer would be ideal! Your kitchen is looking sharp!

I so could've used this last weekend! Just repainted the inside of our exterior doors, Behr's Scotland Isle...I love it! I could use a paint sprayer....we have to do the entire fence around our backyard....about 500 linear feet on one side!

I love the blue you have! I just ordered a patio set in that color and plan on painting our picnic table {your inspiration} the same cobalt blue!

Our doors are painted some sort of off-white- we're trying to re-paint them one door at a time!

All the doors and trim are a yucky "not white but not cream" builder beigey color. Yuck! Please, puh.leeze choose me Mr. Raptor - I promise that if I had a sprayer these doors and trim would be nothing but a memory in no time at all! Thanks for the opportunity - my fingers are crossed!

Omg... look at that ceiling. So so different. I would have never thought in a million year to go for checker ceiling. But it will be difficult to decor around a busy ceiling.
