I love visiting virtual home tours and so I think it is fun to occasionally be in one and share my home with you. When Chris asked if I would be in her Christmas home tour again this year I knew it would be the kick in the pants I needed to get the decorating done before Christmas. If you are here from Anna's blog, welcome! Wasn't her home beautiful?
This year because my house has turned into a workshop and photography studio for my book I only decorated the family room. I also let the kids take a smaller tree down to their room to decorate. But that is it. It took me three days to just CLEAN up my supplies and stuff in the front room. But I got it done.... just in time.
I had to whip out my (not so mad) photoshop skills because I forgot to paint these pots red. I had every intention of painting them at the same time that I painted the red ones you will see on my fireplace in a sec. But I got caught up in the Hallmark Christmas movie.... and I was busy eating the whole bag of peppermint Hershey's kisses....... and they were out of sight therefore out of mind. But you get the idea. I went with "red & green" and "simple" as my themes this year.
This is our second year with having a fireplace and I LOVE it. I put the chalkboard insert (foam core poster board painted with chalkboard paint) up again to cover the TV but instead of writing a Christmas saying I used it to hang this cute Christmas countdown. And aren't those Charlie Brown trees the cutest?
I love my sunny family room! Luckily the weather cooperated for me. I know some of the other bloggers were having dark cloudy days and having a hard time getting the shots they needed. It has been so WARM here in Utah and there isn't any snow. Is anyone else having wacky winter weather?
I built the x planter for something else and it was in the front room (in the corner) and it hit me that it would make the perfect box for the tree to go in. I love just about anything with an x detail :)
My husband wraps all the presents at our house. I wrestle with the wrapping paper until it ends up looking like a kindergartener did it. Look at the striped one! The man has skills, yo!
I almost relocated my fiddle leaf tree and added another pine tree here but he has been so happy in this sunny spot I kept him. I threw him in a chic basket with gold detail to make him more merry.
I still love my noel pillow from last year. This is as close to glittery as I get :)
Confession, I have still not actually finished my gallery wall in "normal" decor. I started my family room makeover then decided to write a book so it got put on hold. Then I decorated for Fall and added autumn things to the frames. Then I did it for Christmas. So one day I will figure out what to put in the frames for everyday life.
I found a few cute free printables online and added wrapping paper to the other frames. Cheap and easy!
The fur pillow has become the favorite at our house. I am surprised it has held up so well with getting snuggled, thrown, sat on, napped on.
I painted my barn wood cabinet white. I dry brushed it on and did two thin layers. I love the effect! I also changed out the hinges. They were out of the ones I wanted in brass, But these will do for now. It looks amazing with the wreath!
And there you have it folks! I love to curl up on the couch at night with the tree lights on and just stare. Sometimes Christmas is still magical, even as an adult, and this is one of those times for me.
Christmas Countdown: GroopDealz, Red Checked Pillows and Green Pillows: IKEA, Noel Pillow: Target (last year), Car Pillow: Craftberry Bush, Gold Basket for fiddle leaf tree: Nate Berkus Collection, Printables: On Sutton Place & Kelli Murray, Fur Pillow: BHG Collection, and the Charlie Brown trees: IKEA.
The next stop on the tour is Myra at My Blessed Life. Enjoy!
