Shane is unbelievably supportive. He doesn't bat an eye when he comes home from work and has to step over debris from my latest (sometimes spur of the moment) project. But there are times when I wish he were less supportive. Like when I say "I think I need to repaint, renovate and redecorate the entire upstairs AT THE SAME TIME." That should have been a time when someone told me I was crazy dumb. Someone should have dangled chocolate in front of my face to distract me and then hid all my tools.
Someone should have stopped me me because now my house looks like this.
I had to empty out my office closet so my electrician friend could help me do some work in the attic. I haven't put it back in the closet because I need to repaint the closet along with the whole office. This is the only room I haven't started yet.
The good news is that the front room is all painted and the new shelves are up. I just haven't had time to decorate it yet. And I need to sell this chair since we got a new ( thrifted) one.
The room I am currently working on is the kitchen. The fridge and stove are in the dining room. And a plastic sheet separate the spaces since I have retextured and sanded to ceiling and walls.
Are you jealous yet?
Oh and the dishwasher is still broken because I really don't want to call someone and invite them over right now.
The bathroom has been put on the back burner until I can get the kitchen functioning again.
So that is where I have been. Sitting in a mess of my own making and pondering my sanity and feeling like I have DIY ADD with jumping around from project to project in the different rooms. But the good news is that eventually I will have LOADS of posts with all sorts of makeovers and reveals. So, there is that.
I do have one project I can share with you though that is DONE. I posted over at the HomeRight blog about my fireplace makeover! I LOVE it :) Hop on over and see how I changed it from traditional to more rustic.
Here's a peek....
Have you ever gotten in over your head before on a project?

Oh my! The living room, kitchen, upstairs bath, and office are ALL under major construction?!?! I'd cry.
How are you making meals during the reno process? Do you have a make-shift kitchen set up somewhere? Just BBQ outside since it's summer, take-out, or what?
Take out, crock pot, microwave, cold cereal, anything we can make easily :)
Wow! You are ambitious! We are currently doing our main floor bath, the one my family of four uses all the time. It's taking longer than I thought and we've hit some bumps along the way... The vanity marble top came in broken and the company won't get back to me and now one of our medicine cabinets came in broken. Ugh. I just want it all dealt with and done!! I need my house back in order before I go back to teaching next month.
Oh no! I hope they get back to you about the counters. I'm with you, wanting it all done NOW! :)
Yes definitely.... When we purchased our fixer upper home almost six years ago I knew then we were in over our heads. Now still plugging away I'm finally getting to the bathroom remodel. It's been a slow process getting here. Decided to finally just chill through it and enjoy the process. So the walls are almost finished then I get to rip out the sink vanity next.. Moving forward feels good, I'm finding it's less stressful when you don't push to quick through the process. I found a DIY checklist was extremely helpful to gather my ideas.
My project isn't as big as the one you have going I decided to "organize" my office I pulled everything out of the closet and drawers put in in the living room lined all the drawers and shelves with some wallpaper from my sister it looks beautiful and will make me smile to think of her I started putting back what I want unfortunately I don't know what to do with the leftovers so the living room looks like an explosion happened I'll deal with it but unfortunately what's left isn't stuff that I can just throw away it needs a home Oh well maybe I'll just work my way through the house to the door. ;)
Marybeth I so feel your pain since it is my own
I can totally sympathize :) right now my entire back yard and side yards have 4'-10' ditches so ithose areas are taped off like a crime scene....we've pulled down 2 walls when you first come in the front door so you've gotta be aware not to step into the places where the walls were or you could Jewish an ankle....oh and dont look up-don't look up-no cieling where walls came down and 16' and 12' beams had to go in....1 bathroom is gutted to studs, the other bathroom gutted to just a toilet, and one that is waiting to be gutted.....I finally broke last weekend, plopped on my outdoor swing and sobbed...and sobbed...and then took a Xanax :) I know it will get better, but next weekend we're starting the basement reno :(
Wow! You have me beat by a mile! We need to do the basement too but luckily for my sanity's sake, the budget is holding us back. Good luck with all of that!
Correction from my post....auto correct is evil :) I typed TWIST an ankle....lol!!!
I totally knew what you meant but it cracked me up :)
well at least I know there is someone else that does this. AND the sad part of it is that it is not improving with age and experience. where I was once able to keep all the balls in the air as I juggled through having too many things being partially done and having things stopped for very good reasons that one just must be patient while the issue is resolved. is it hormonal that the juggling gets to be more scattering than juggling ??? thanks for giving those of us who are not perfect in our accomplishments a bit of empathy.
You all are amazing and a little nuts at the same time. I love following your blog and hearing about your joys and trials. This is exactly the reason I cried a little when we decided to purchase a brand new home instead of the 100 year old beautiful farm house. :-( On the bright side, my current project is making a table and picture frames instead of reno-ing our whole home. My hats are off to y'all!
