String Lights and Planters!

By Stacy 179 Comments

Our theme for this month’s Better Homes and Gardens (BHG at Walmart) post was Outdoor Decor and at first I was like “Have you seen Utah in March?” because well, have you? IF the snow happens to be gone, it is a brown muddy mess. Luckily for those of us with less than stellar weather, we could use the items in our home somewhere so that is what I did.

I was so excited to see that they now have Edison bulb string lights. Shane and both have wanted an outdoor eating area complete with string lights everywhere for a long time. I went ahead and bought 6 sets for when it does actually warm up here. We don’t have a patio or deck yet so that may have to jump ahead on our to-do list this spring :)

But for now, I think they look pretty cute in my dining room!

BHG also has a ton of new planters and this white tabletop planter has my heart with its hexagon shape and the dots along the rim.

The table runner, dishes and silverware are all from the Better Homes and Gardens line as well.

The first thing we need to do outside is plant flowers along the front of our house. We also put together our own hanging baskets – much cheaper than buying them already made and more fun!

I would love to make a nice firepit with comfortable outdoor furniture in a corner of the yard. Lights around our patio and BBQ area is something I’ve also been thinking about–it’s great that Walmart carries the Edison lights, I’ve seen so many great ideas incorporating these!

We were super busy the last few weeks, but we finally hung the hammock chair, put out my new bench in the back garden, put out the fairy garden, got the patio furniture back out, put the bird bath out, painted an old toy box to use as a storage bench on our front patio, extended our front patio about a foot into the garden using paving stones, and planted new grass seed in the bare patches. Still on the list: replace the old solar lights in the front garden, fresh mulch and some nice plants for out back. Lol. Then sit back and enjoy.

Our patio table was picked up by an extremely strong gust of wind and thrown into our grill. BOth went down hard and the glass tabletop shattered so that needs to be replaced so I can sit on the deck and enjoy my morning coffee once it warms up a little bit. Not sure how the grill fared but hoping it still functions!

I have so much to do on my patio to get ready I guess I’m feeling a little over-whelmed. I want to start with the concrete I need to pressure wash then I need to do some patch work and then I want to stain it. My patio is huge and it is covered I have a dinning area and a lounge area. I want to buy new area rugs, and new outdoor napkins and a table runner, but I definitely have to have those string lights they are fabulous. I also need to buy a couple new large planters, I have painted and repainted my old ones so many times that I just need to replace them, my old ones have been good and I will move them to my flower beds. That $100.00 Walmart card would sure go long ways for me. I don’t know about you, but I usually have to make what I want which is fine I’m grateful for my diy skills and of course when I have extra change I head to Walmart always.

The weather is warming up in Indianapolis, the grass is turning green and the trees are budding…I love it! I’m thinking I need to spruce up my front porch with a pretty spring wreath, colorful planters and an outdoor lantern. Happy spring!

I’ve ordered 3 sets of Hosta plants from groupon for the shady areas of my backyard, so that’s happening first! Also I’ve been looking for lights for the patio deck for a few years now but didn’t want anything similar to what my friends and neighbors have. I really like the look of these lights. Thanks for a chance to win the gift card. I can make a huge dent in my lighting purchase with it.

We live in San Diego CA so we spend a lot of time in the backyard. Recent winds ripped off the gazebo canvas, so that is the next expense for us. Yesterday I bought herbs for my new herb garden and a hanging tomato plant. I’m hoping that the squirrels won’t be able to raid this plant!
