Our theme for this month’s Better Homes and Gardens (BHG at Walmart) post was Outdoor Decor and at first I was like “Have you seen Utah in March?” because well, have you? IF the snow happens to be gone, it is a brown muddy mess. Luckily for those of us with less than stellar weather, we could use the items in our home somewhere so that is what I did.
I was so excited to see that they now have Edison bulb string lights. Shane and both have wanted an outdoor eating area complete with string lights everywhere for a long time. I went ahead and bought 6 sets for when it does actually warm up here. We don’t have a patio or deck yet so that may have to jump ahead on our to-do list this spring :)
But for now, I think they look pretty cute in my dining room!
BHG also has a ton of new planters and this white tabletop planter has my heart with its hexagon shape and the dots along the rim.
The table runner, dishes and silverware are all from the Better Homes and Gardens line as well.
Are you ready to start thinking about outdoor decor yet? What is the first thing you want to do to your outdoor space this spring?

Now that the weather is starting to warm up and it’s officially spring forward, leaving more daylight in the evenings, I have definitely been thinking about my outdoor space. I would love to make a nice firepit with comfortable outdoor furniture in a corner of the yard. Lights around our patio and BBQ area is something I’ve also been thinking about–it’s great that Walmart carries the Edison lights, I’ve seen so many great ideas incorporating these!

The first thing that I’d like to do this spring is freshen up my front porch with new pillows and some flowers in pots!
Yes, I am thinking about getting our space ready for the outsdoors. We only have a patio, but I figure sweeping it clean, getting some lighting and chair will make for a decent outdoor lounging space for two.
Love the outdoor decor in your dining room, just ordered striped umbrella from their outdoor collection. I would love some new cushions from their collection.
I’m in Colorado and we’re not done with winter yet either! But when we are, I’d love to string those awesome lights across my porch ceiling… They’re beautiful!
I love your menu board. I usually clean the patio really good and get out all the furniture and put out plants when it is warmer. I plant flowers in my Raised flower beds and the colors are so pretty!
Nice lights.
We have a covered pavillion in our back yard that my husband build a couple years ago. This spring, we hope to get a metal roof put on and buy some new furniture for the space.
Definitely already thinking about outdoor decor though it’s still int he 40 – 50s here. I’m wanting to set up a canopy this year in my backyard and hang lights on it.
The first Spring project on my to-do list is get my deck ready so i can enjoy my morning coffee. My backyard will have to wait a little longer till the weather warms up a bit more and all the sweet gum balls fall from the tree.
My table is bare and would look much more inviting if I too had a cute runner and planter like yours! ;)
So ready! 84 today in Charlotte,nc
We had out paver patio just put in this past year so we have to wash it off and most definitely get patio furniture. I’m dying to see my flowers bloom.

Thank you for the giveaway! This would be so great for new decor for the new patio we are having poured!
The first thing I want to do for my outdoor space is get a shed on our side yard so we can store the lawn mower, weed wacker, etc in there. That way we’ll have more room in our tiny garage. ;D
Our outdoor table was destroyed in a recent wind storm, so my first priority is to replace it, either by repurposing pieces for my own creation, or purchase one I can’t live without!
love the runner and the string lights! Thanks so much for the springtime inspiration and the giveaway.
There are so many things I want to do! I plan on getting new patio furniture because the ones I have now are pretty old. I’d also love to add a pergola to the back and hang lights for night time entertaining. I love to eat outdoors when the weather is nice so I’m looking forward to the Spring & Summer. I also would like to get some potted plants to go around the area and a fire pit :) I’ve lots of plans in my head, now I just need to execute them!

I just want to be able to put out my patio table and sit outside on my deck and not look at snow or mud!!!
I want to installa water feature
This is so pretty! I love all the plants. I wish I had an outdoor dining area. The best we have is a patio which is really nice but I wish I had more of a designed space. Would love to win!
Love the lights around the chalkboard menu. What a great idea! And the planter would be great for my succulents!
Love the natural elements in this setting. I am hoping to create a terrarium for my table!
Ooh, I love those lights! I am planning on making a couple of light fixtures with some for above my work table and the air hockey table with light strands like these! Although, I’m totally loving the way you draped them over your chalkboard too…
I need to clean out the flower beds and then re-mulch them. I’d love to plant some annuals around the front, too.
We have already gotten our outdoor spaces all spruced up. We were super busy the last few weeks, but we finally hung the hammock chair, put out my new bench in the back garden, put out the fairy garden, got the patio furniture back out, put the bird bath out, painted an old toy box to use as a storage bench on our front patio, extended our front patio about a foot into the garden using paving stones, and planted new grass seed in the bare patches. Still on the list: replace the old solar lights in the front garden, fresh mulch and some nice plants for out back. Lol. Then sit back and enjoy.
We just moved into our house late last summer. I could use this flowers and lights and new outdoor cushions.

This is the first spring in our new home — lots of clean-up to the yard. We are most excited about starting a vegetable garden!
hey girl Love the post! the lights do look really good in the dining room! My husband and I live in Shawnee,OK and the weather has been nice this winter! Not to much snow! Now the weather is staying pretty warm! So… We still need a small table and couple of chairs for our little porch out from our bedroom! Any ideas where I can find a bargain on something!
I am looking for a fallen tree that I can put in my yard and use as a super-sized planter/fairie garden.
I am dying to get outside and get my flower bed going and my pond with waterfall needs some loving this Spring also. Our patio table was picked up by an extremely strong gust of wind and thrown into our grill. BOth went down hard and the glass tabletop shattered so that needs to be replaced so I can sit on the deck and enjoy my morning coffee once it warms up a little bit. Not sure how the grill fared but hoping it still functions!
Definitely need to add some of the Edison string lights to the patio so I can sit out there in the evening to enjoy listening to the night sounds! TFS!
I need to restain our garden bench and ant up my hanging baskets.
I’m planning on putting a small brick or block patio in a section of my lawn for my outdoor table and canopy
I just started yesterday to decorate my screened porch…white wicker sofa with navy cushions, blue-green painted potting bench repurposed as a serving sideboard, glass topped table with white metal chairs are the beginning of a seaside color scheme with accents of coral.
The first thing I need to do is wipe down the patio furniture. Would love to get a new table and chair set! :)
First, I’d love to have a pergola for a little bit of shade, but I’ll probably have to settle for more flowers. Can you ever have too many flowers? And those Edison style light strings would be fabulous draped all over a pergola!
Can’t wait to get the rest of our garden in! Would love to string lights along the back of the garden
Here in sunny California I am certainly already thinking about spring! The first thing I did was have a party on the patio but those Edison bulb lights would make all things bright out there!
Love your post…BHG has some really wonderful things
I love to browse the beautiful, cheerful flowers with my (5!) Kids. They help pick out the plants and help plant them too! Thats the 1st thing I like to do after a long, RAINY winter here in SW WA state.
The first thing I need to do is pressure wash my patio!!!! It’s a mess!!!! Then I want to get a nice outdoor rug!!!
The first thing I need to do get my outdoor space ready is clean! Over the winter, we had two 60 foot pines removed and now the space is filled with…emptiness and leaves and all sorts of tumble stuff that needs to be cleaned up. I have my work cut out for me!
Like they say, it’s all in the details. And your details are beyond adorable!!!
First thing to do is clear the weeds that seem to pop up as soon as the ground warms up! I can’t wait to plant flowers both in the ground and in old cooking pots I gather. Last spring we put up an old metal bed in the corner of our garden and turned it into a flower bed. Kept the voles from eating all the plants! These lights would look super along the headboard! Come on Spring time!!
Those are super cute. I bought some online that I tried to string up on my porch, but somehow I like yours a whole ton better.
I’d like to replant my perennials and find a gazebo and fountain for our large front patio, and sand and re-paint my picnic table on the back patio.
I love the Edison lights! They are a good match for my decor and personal style. Thanks for the information and the giveaway entry!
Forgot to mention- the first thing I am going to do is figure out weather-resistant toy storage for all my son’s frisbees, balls, jump ropes, etc.!
I want to enlarge my garden and add more vegetables and herbs to my garden. I would love to enclose it in so that the dog doesn’t run through it when she goes out.
My backyard could use some love this summer. Id like to try to build a new picnic table and redo the patio area.
We did work on our deck last summer, so now we have new floorboards and painted up the railings. Even the gazebo is sturdier and looking great. However, I have NO decor for the deck. I really want to get some pillows for the seat in the gazebo and other things to dress it up. I would love to win this.
All I have out back are a couple of plain white plastic chairs. I would like to get a little table and some planters.
I would love to add some string lights so we can hang out longer in the evenings!
Your dinning room is so pretty! I cannot wait to plant some flowers and clean and decorate my deck. My deck actually needs to be redone but that’s just not going to happen this year. I will just clean and touch up the paint and that will have to do :)
Love, Love, Love the Edison String Lights and a great price too!
Our back deck desperately needs to be replaced. That will be our 1st priority this summer.
There’s nothing that says “summer” like hanging outside on the deck, grilling or relaxing with a drink!!!
LOVE the lights! Adds a spark to the whole room. (Really, no pun intended, LOL.)
That little planter would be good for seed starts. :-)
Excited to start a veggie garden and I have edison bulb lights I can’t wait to hang!
I have so much to do on my patio to get ready I guess I’m feeling a little over-whelmed. I want to start with the concrete I need to pressure wash then I need to do some patch work and then I want to stain it. My patio is huge and it is covered I have a dinning area and a lounge area. I want to buy new area rugs, and new outdoor napkins and a table runner, but I definitely have to have those string lights they are fabulous. I also need to buy a couple new large planters, I have painted and repainted my old ones so many times that I just need to replace them, my old ones have been good and I will move them to my flower beds. That $100.00 Walmart card would sure go long ways for me. I don’t know about you, but I usually have to make what I want which is fine I’m grateful for my diy skills and of course when I have extra change I head to Walmart always.
I really like the Edison lights!
The weather is warming up in Indianapolis, the grass is turning green and the trees are budding…I love it! I’m thinking I need to spruce up my front porch with a pretty spring wreath, colorful planters and an outdoor lantern. Happy spring!
I would use it to decorate my patio. I am so excited about spring.
Love that white tabletop planter!!
I’ve ordered 3 sets of Hosta plants from groupon for the shady areas of my backyard, so that’s happening first! Also I’ve been looking for lights for the patio deck for a few years now but didn’t want anything similar to what my friends and neighbors have. I really like the look of these lights. Thanks for a chance to win the gift card. I can make a huge dent in my lighting purchase with it.
We’re putting up some lattice near the deck for blooming climbing vines, and plan on buying a small table and chairs.
I can’t wait for blue skies and warmer weather here in the Midwest! I can’t wait to plant flowers in planters on my back deck. Seeing them bloom throughout spring/summer makes me happy!
We live in San Diego CA so we spend a lot of time in the backyard. Recent winds ripped off the gazebo canvas, so that is the next expense for us. Yesterday I bought herbs for my new herb garden and a hanging tomato plant. I’m hoping that the squirrels won’t be able to raid this plant!
would start with string lights, love them!
We are hoping to build a new outdoor sectional sofa for our patio.
The first thing we need to do is clean our outdoor cushions and buy some plants, flowers and planters. Thanks for the giveaway.

The first thing I want to do is take out a bunch of ivy that has taken over our planter in the back yard and plant a lilac bush. We’re buying the house we’ve rented the past 9 years so now I can do whatever I want to do in the yard! I’ve always wanted a lilac bush, but I’ve held off until we could buy a house… It’s become a symbol of that big step and now is finally our time!!!
My husband and I really haven’t done anything to our little back patio since we moved in. I would love to come up with a plan to decorate out there!
