95% of the time I am in sweats/cut offs, a tee shirt covered in paint, a pony tail, and no make-up. (Neighbors, friends, people who have seen me at Wal-Mart, and anyone from the school feel free to comment verifying that last statement!) I am pretty low maintenance and I don't like getting my picture taken. I dress up for church and date night. That is about it.
But I recently had the opportunity to get professional head shots for my blog. I was nervous which seemed silly. But usually I have a power tool or a kid to hide behind. Or I pull a silly face. All those things are kind of security blankets. But to be one on one with a photographer and actually take it seriously scared me!
I had no idea what to wear. I am NOT a fashionista. If you saw my closet you would gasp. I have maybe 10 shirts. Total. And I only have one pair of jeans that fit right. And I don't wear a lot of make-up. I have never worn eyeshadow or eye liner before. I don't own lipstick. Just some strawberry lip gloss :)
So I panicked. I went to the drug store and bought fake eyelashes and some other things. I put them on and I looked like a cartoon! I didn't realize there were different lengths. Apparently I got the REALLY long ones. So I ripped them off and washed my face. And started over. I just did the same ole thing. A little powder, blush, and mascara.
So I spent $16.00 to find out that I am not comfortable being something I am not. I wore my ONE cute outfit and did my hair like I always do. I learned that a little extra blush and a necklace are all I needed :)
My photographer, Emily Clark, was AMAZING! She not only made me feel so unbelievably comfortable but the girl has mad skills. MAD SKILLS!
Not only is she a super successful photographer, but she has a fun blog called Mommy Models. While doing family shoots, Emily discovered that she loved taking the mom aside and doing a shoot with just her. Moms don't usually do that for themselves. She loved it and had such a good response that she decided to start up Mommy Models.
Mommy Models is not only a blog full of fun girly things, but they have a yearly contest. Moms book photo shoots and wear their cutest shoes. During the shoot the photographer will also take a picture of just your shoes. All the shoe photos will be assigned a number so people can vote. The mom with the most votes for her shoes wins an amazing prize package worth over $500!!! There are several photographers all over Utah that are involved. So there is bound to be one in your area.
Isn't that such a fun idea? A day to get all dolled up and focus on you. And then you also have a chance to win a prize! All you need is some chocolate or ice cream and your set! If you live in Utah or will be visiting you should check it out. Do something fun for your self. They also do groups. What a fun Mom and daughter day!
I loved my experience and I LOVED the look on my husband's face when he saw that first one :)
