Crushing On: Space Saving Furniture

By Stacy 4 Comments

Space saving, multifunctional, or transforming. Whatever you choose to call these pieces of furniture that hide secrets, save space, or are used for more than one thing, I am a huge fan. I live in a cute little house with 5 other people and a dog. We need all the help we can get to make the most of our small space. These are some of my favorite space saving furniture ideas!

I realized as I was putting this post together that I have never shared with you the photos of the secrets my fireplace holds. When I built it years ago, I had intended to post a tutorial on how I built it but never got around to it. The sides slide out and hold DVDs while the front panel opens to reveal the DVR and Blu-Ray player.

You have seen it many times before without the doors open :)

This is one thing I wish we had. When I found my sofa, I loved the look and how comfy it was. The only that would have made it better was if it were a sofa bed. When you don’t have a designated guest room, a sofa bed is a great alternative!

Our beds take up so much space in our rooms. It makes sense to have it do double duty. I love this hidden slide out drawer that could hold extra bedding and pillows.

This bed has drawers along the side you could use as extra dresser space.

Headboard storage is great if you don’t have room for a side table or just need extra space.

What if you could utilize the entire underside of your bed? I think I would store out of season clothes.

Do your kids share a small room? This bed makes the most of a small footprint. Even the stairs are storage! Talk about space saving furniture!

Speaking of stairs…  While not furniture, this certainly makes good use of wasted space!

This is not hidden, but is a beautiful use of the space under the stairs.

Coffee table? Or bed? How about both! Such a clever idea for when you have a guest decide to stay the night.

This space saving furniture made me think of hosting Thanksgiving. Forget the card table and chairs for the kids, this stylish coffee table/dining table would be perfect!

I have nontraditional filing cabinets in my office, so I loved the idea of concealing one in an ottoman!

Our bench in the family room holds board games.

What would you store in this chair? Blankets? Books?

I love the idea of having a little workspace that you can fold up when not used. This one is a chalkboard memo board when all hung up!

Here’s another fun example that would be cute in a child’s room.

This version takes it to a whole new level by creating a work and eating space in a tiny kitchen. I love all the storage!

In my office, I made the reclaimed shelves have a drawer inside. I store my children’s artwork and other papers in there.

This idea is pure genius! No one likes looking at their ironing board. But what if it doubled as mirror?

Do you have any double duty furniture pieces in your home? I’d love to hear how you save space in your home!

You had me at ironing board AND mirror! LOL
Love the stair idea too! But I already have the space under my stairs as a coat closet!
Thanks for sharing this fun list!

Wow. That blew my mind about the hidden shelving next to the fireplace. How handy is that?!
