    Side table redo

    By Stacy 2 Comments

I love taking something I have and giving it a new look. In the early years of our marriage we were given a lot of hand me down furniture. I was able to make everything go together by refinishing or reupholstering. I still have most of those pieces today. Somehow when you work on something you become attached to it.

This is the side table from the previous post. It is oak and was originally a medium to light stain. Everything in my house is dark wood. So it kind of stuck out like a sore thumb. But I loved the design and it was a wedding gift from some special people so I decided to give it a face lift. I painted it a similar color to the walls. Then I sanded it to give it a worn antique look. I rubbed a little water based stain on it as well. The hardware was a very shiny brass. I soaked them in ammonia for a couple days and it took the shiny coating off and made the brass look old. This is one of my favorite pieces in my house!

I didn't know you could soak brass in ammonia to make it look old...thanks for the tip!
