A year or so ago Shane came with me to the Haven blog conference in Atlanta. My mom stayed with the kids. One night I got a call from my mom saying that they had locked themselves out and could not get in the house. It was past my kids' bedtime and it was pouring rain. They had tried to go through a window but they were all locked and since it was so wet the kids were slipping (our windows are high off the ground). The kids had used the spare key earlier that week and forgot to put it back in our secret hiding place. We live in a small town and it was after hours so who knows if a locksmith could have been found and if he would have come. They had run out of options, were soaking wet and cold, and wondered what to do. I told them to go ahead and kick the door down. My boys may or may not have been a little too excited to do it.
We lived with a huge crack in our door frame for a long time. It wasn't until that next summer that we replaced the door frame and the door but we still had the old dead bold that required a key. Shane and I had talked about getting a deadbolt that opened with a code so that our boys (and grandma) would always be able to get in no matter what but it kept getting shoved to the back of our minds because of all the other big projects we have been doing. When Schlage™ emailed me about their new lock system that not only had a key pad but also worked with your iphone I was SUPER excited to try it out!
It was really easy to install and it has gotten a lot of use since the boys think it is their new toy. I have to admit it is pretty fun to use.
This pup cracks me up! Ever since he was new to our home if I wanted to take his picture I would bribe him with a treat and tell him to sit so he would hold still. Now when I pull out the camera he automatically sits in front of it and patiently waits for his treat :) I didn't intend to include him in this shoot but he did such a good job of sitting (and he is pretty darn cute) so I figured why not?
There are different styles but I chose the Camelot in satin nickel.

Shortly after we brought one of our dogs home, she ran out the front door and I closed it as I ran out to grab her, not realizing that the door handle was still locked! We ended up calling a locksmith, but this definitely would've saved us the $75 and an hour out in the Florida heat with a freaked out dog!
By the way, I've never commented before, but I recently started coming to your blog and I love all of your ideas!
We could definitely use this! Fingers crossed!
Love this! Would love to own it.
I've been wanting to try something like this, keys are a pain!
I'm OCD and forgetful - I'd love to be able to use my iPhone to check/lock my doors.
Love the Camelot trim! http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE479CAMFFF.html
Thanks for the chance!
My favorite of all the options is the Schlage Touch™ Keyless Touchscreen Deadbolt with Camelot trim paired with Camelot Handleset and Accent Lever with Camelot trim. While they are all really cool I really like the handles from this set. =}
I've been eyeing this for a while :)
We just bought a new to us house and need to replace all of the locks, this would be my chose. Stylish and practical.
I've looked at these before, but never the fine details. I like the idea of being able to key in a code or unlocking with my phone...especially since I'm famous for losing my keys. Do you ever worry about being hacked?
I would choose this http://www.build.com/schlage-fe479-cam-acc-lh/s1147649?uid=2747602
the aged bronze sense Camelot tough screen. We are in the process of building a new home and have 5 children. We are having to cut some corners in the smaller things (like cool and useful front door knobs and locks) because building a house is SO expensive! So this would be a super exciting win and addition to our new home! You know, when it's finally built!
I've been looking at these deadbolts for awhile now, but didn't know if I would like them. Thanks for the testimonial. ☺️
This would solve locked out issues at my house.
That is awesome. I would love to have that with house full of kids who don't carry keys!
Have been locked out before by our dogs. Husband was not a happy camper....need I say more
This would make living with teenagers who come and go at all hours so much easier.
Oh we Need this. Our front door is adorbs , with the exception of the hardware. Ew.
The pup is darling!
Very cool! ???
I would choose the - http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/BE479CENFFF.html I don't tend to forget my iPhone but I'm always forgetting my keys and bags and whatnot. This would be extremely helpful and would alleviate headaches :) and stress of forgetting items all the time.
Hmmm....I used to have a key fob for my car and loved that. Now I could open my house with my phone!
Love the contemporary look of this one: http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/BE479CENFFF.html. This would be a time saver when coming home with more than a handful of grocery bags. Being able to talk to phone to open door would be a time saver for sure.
http://www.schlage.com/en/home/keyless-deadbolt-locks/sense.html
Since I always seem to have a problem finding my keys in my purse, this would be ideal. (And, yes, they are in there...)
That is one great lock and your door is gorgeous. So nice to not have to keep up with keys.
I like how The Sense looks the best

Schlage Sense™ Smart Deadbolt with Century trim
Stacy and Shane, this is BRILLIANT! Oh my stars, I can't imagine how freaked out the kids and grandma were at the prospect of calling to say they were locked out. Thanks for the opportunity to win this!!
I like the Schlage Touch Keyless in satin nickel
http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/FE375CAMFFFACC.html
This is a great giveaway! I would love to have something like this when I go out walking/running/bike riding - I wouldn't have to bring the garage door opener with me or an extra key. Thank you for the chance!
My biggest fear is being locked out. This would be perfect. I could use one on my car as well!
http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE369NXCAMFFF-F10ACCFFF.html Pretty and functional!
I really like the Wakefield. I would love something like this for my house.
We have been talking about getting something like this! With our son coming home from school alone now, this would make me feel so much better knowing if the garage failed he could still easily get in.
forgot to add the link: http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE479CAMFFF.html I'd pick the Camelot in the aged bronze.
I love this one too! It would look wonderful and be SO useful for those forgetful moments. :) http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE479CAMFFF.html
We are new homeowners and just replaced the locks on all of our doors. We considered this solution but decided there were more pressing places to spend our dollars. Today, I'm kicking myself a little because I was running late this morning and managed to leave my house keys on the foyer table. Ugh...
I'd love to install the Schalge Sense Smart Deadbolt with Century Trim. I think it would work best with the look of our front door, and it would certainly keep me from being locked out!
http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/BE479CENFFF.html
I had a similar experience to yours but I was the eldest child waiting for my siblings to come home from school. We had just installed new double pained windows and the garage door remotes was locked inside on top of my bedroom dresser! I had our spare key but our dead bolt was broken so badly that a helpful friend managed to break the spare key in half trying to get the lock to turn. So we went to the church youth activity that night and came home to our trusted family friend removing the entire deadbolt so we could get in the house. You'd better believe my parents got a neat key pad lock for the garage door and a new dead bolt :}
These are really nice. We still have the same key lock and handle that was there when the house was built, so anything is an upgrade! Thank you!
I really like this lock: http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE479CAMFFF.html I think the Camelot look around it will match the door we currently have and it will look very good. It will also allow us to share the code with family so they can check on our house even when we are not here.
I like the Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt. It looks awesome and easy to use.
The Camelot would really dress up my entry door. Love the look!
http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE479CAMFFF.html
These are so beautiful - I would love the Aged Bronze. It would look lovely on our Alder wood front door!
http://www.schlage.com/en/home/keyless-deadbolt-locks/sense.html
What a PERFECT produce for my home. With a new grandchild I would love to walk up to my front door with her in my arms and not have to fumble for a key, when carrying in bags of groceries to just punch a code would be unbelievable!! I need the Schlage Sense!!
This is a difficult choice to me. I love the keyless entry. However, there are also bonuses to the keyed entry. with the capability to use both iPhone/IPad and Apple TV, and the alert to entry into the home, plus prevention of burglary. I would truly like to see a combination of the two as the ultimate protection as either has a weak spot in its defense of our home. I do not think the keyless entry will be the best start-up lock and I love that there is no lock to pick, and it can be entered by the button punching method. No keys to carry or keep up with. The designs are sleek and modern and look good with any home design.
Love the idea! I often need someone to pick up something at my house...would love to give them a code instead of figuring out how to get them a key!
The door color always gets me and I would love that lock for our sitter. She got locked out with the kids just last week.
http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE479CAMFFF.html would improve it by giving it a little class and would make me feel safe and secure
I like the Schlage Touch™ Keyless Touchscreen Deadbolt in Satin Nickel. I think it's the most practical choice for my family and I like the attractive styling.
http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/product-listing.html
Our front door automatically locks when you close it. Which is not very convenient when you just run out real quick to turn on the Christmas lights and the door shuts behind you. I've had to break back into my house twice now. We've been talking about getting a lock with a code for a while now but haven't wanted to spend the extra money yet. I love the Camelot in Matte Black.
Wow, love this giveaway. We need a new lock on the back of our house and I think that this would be perfect. Thanks for the opportunity. I think I would pick Touchscreen Deadbolt with alarm with Century trim. I liked a couple of them, but I think this is the one.
I would choose the: Schlage Touch™ Keyless Touchscreen Deadbolt with Camelot trim paired with Camelot Handleset and Accent Lever with Camelot trim. Here's the link: http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/FE375CAMFFFACC.html. This would definitely make the entry look much more sophisticated and would help because my kids could come in the house after school without a key. Then I wouldn't have to worry about them loosing the key because they wouldn't need one. ;D
I'm always looking for a way to streamline and carry less, and yep, one key would be 'less'. I've been looking at something like this for awhile and haven't yet decided if I wanted to take the plunge or not.
BTW, love the dog in the pics. Great advertising prop! :-)
I keep hiding a spare key and forgetting where I hid it. This would be wonderful. I love the Century trim in matte black.
http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/product-listing.html#
3 kids all coming home at different times! we would LOVE this, we just got the door painted and need a new screen door two, I would do a full curb appeal makeover post with this! love it!
http://www.schlage.com/en/home/keyless-deadbolt-locks/touch.html I like the touch one most. We don't have smartphones, so it's the smartest choice for us.
Love the camelot style. Its so classic looking.
I love this concept as well. I've been looking at them for quite some time, but they're a little out of the budget right now. It would really help alleviate the problem we have with missing house keys and also forgetting to put the spare back in its hiding spot. Since we all have smart phones, it would making getting locked out a non-existent problem, maybe even useful to unlock the door when coming in with groceries?
I like this one : http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/BE479CENFFF.html
A couple weeks ago, I locked myself out on a cold day with my new baby. It was a disaster!
http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/BE365CAMFFF-FE285CAMFFFACC.html
I love this! It would help our family feel secure and I love not needing keys. :)
I would choose the Century design in Satin Nickel, http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/BE479CENFFF.html. We have an old 1935 farm house and we like to add surprising little touches of modern here and there. My mother in law lives with us and with her age, she sometimes has trouble turning a key in the lock. This would help tremendously. Thank you for the chance to add it to our house!
It sure would be better then one i have now. I like the camelot trim
I found the site a bit confusing but I think this is one I would like.
http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/FE375CENFFFMER.html
I would love this for the girls so we don't have an extra key floating around for the kids.
How awesome is the Schlage Connect Camelot Touchscreen Deadbolt with Built-In Alarm and Handleset Grip with Accent Lever, Aged Bronze? It is beautiful! My kids easily loose keys or forget them but they ALWAYS have their electronics on them!
oops forgot: http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/FBE469NXCAMFFFACC.html
I like the century trim in satin nickel. I like the simple style. I don't like fancy stuff.
We've recently added all new windows to our home. we are in the process of updating all the doors as well. I like the idea of being able to lock my doors with my phone but I'd still like to have a key as well. I like this one: http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/BE479CENFFF.html
Schlage Touch™ Keyless Touchscreen Deadbolt with Century trim paired with Century Handleset and Broadway Lever with Century trim would be my choice. My husband has locked himself out a few times and this is easier than crawling through a small window! LOL!
I love this one: http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/FBE469NXCENFFFELA.html It would definitely upgrade my home. Our locks are old and need to be replaced. It will also keep my family safe.
My favorite is the http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/FE695CENFFFMER.html
Aside from the ease of use, the color and style match the current theme of our home.
I would love to give my front door a beautiful lift with the Schlage Sense™ Smart Deadbolt with Camelot trim in satin nickel!
My house is nice but nissing those final touches that would make it stand out! Bring on the beauty!!!!
we just bought an old house and want to update and the schlage sense dead bolt would match our current schlage front door set that we just installed.
I like the Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt with Camelot Trim, in satin nickel.
http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE479CAMFFF.html
This would be great for us, because my daughter has a terrible habit of losing her keys. She doesn't live at home anymore, but when she wants to stop by she usually has to wait for us to be home, because she never ever has keys! We don't do the "hidden key outside" thing, and don't want to start!
Is it bad we moved into a new house and never changed the locks? I know it is...AND the handles/locks are not good...PLEASE! This could all change!!
http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE469NXCAMFFF.html
I would love this Schlage Smart Sense Deadbolt! It would be wonderful in making sure my kids didn't get locked out and would also solve the issue of them leaving the house unlocked when they go out but can't find a key. And when my husband runs, or when I bike - we wouldn't have to worry about carrying a key or hiding one under the flowerpot. (Like that's safe?!)
http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE479CAMFFF.html
Since I am a single woman, living alone, I'd love to have this smart lock... it would give me peace of mind, especially if I need to let people in when I can't be there... then I can just change the code so they can't get back in later!
And I'd pick the "camelot" version too! In bright brass, it would look beautiful on my 100 year old house!

http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/BE479CENFFF.html
This would be so convenient when you have a load of packages or groceries.
I like the http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/BE479CENFFF.html in matte black. Our front door has a coded lock that was here when we bought this home last summer. It's ugly, but we left it there so that our grandson and exchange student don't need to take a key to school (they walk to and from school). This one is pretty and the black would look awesome on our soon to be red door!
We have seven children and I love the idea of not having seven plus physical keys plus being able to be alerted when someone enters our home is absolutely priceless.

Schlage Sense™ Smart Deadbolt
I love the Schlage Connect, it would be perfect for my school age kids to be able to get into the house if ever needed without a key.
Really like the Century Trim one in nickel. We moved into my grandparents home so it needs lots of updating, including the main door so this would be perfect. Thanks!
http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/BE479CENFFF.html
I've been looking into deadbolts and such for doors in our house, not just our front door, but our back door and garage door. any of them would benefit immensely from something like this
I like the Schlage Connect Touchscreen Deadbolt with alarm with Century trim paired with Elan Lever with Century trim. This would be awesome on my front door and would really improve the look of my door as as there is nothing fancy about it right now. I just have a regular door know with a key lock. Here is the link to the item- http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/FBE469NXCENFFFELA.html
The http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/BE365PLYFFF-F10FLAFFF.html would be great for my house since my family comes to visit and stay with me but I'm not always home when they arrive. So this would be perfect for them to get inside without me having to hide a key outside!
Schlage Sense Camelot for me: http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE479CAMFFF.html
Our home was built in 1940, as were the homes around ours. We purchased it from the original owners and never bothered to change the locks. We live in a pretty quiet subdivision and never though of it being an issue. One day while my husband was in the basement and I was in the kitchen, I heard what sounded like someone trying to open our front door. Lo and behold, someone entered our house. I stepped into the kitchen doorway and was able to see this person and started screaming for my husband, who came running up the stairs. It turned out the guy was the brother of the woman who had moved into the house next door to us only two days before. He thought he was going to her house but clearly had the wrong address. She had given him a spare key and funnily enough, it worked in our locks. We still haven't changed ours, but she changes hers. So we could definitely use a change! :)
I would love the Schalge sense! It would help my disable veteran husband feel so much safer!
I love this one in Antique Brass: http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/product-selector.html
What a great giveaway! I would love one like this and our front door handle needs to be replaced anyway...12 years old and very worn out and corroded!
We have had a similar house sitter locked out situation. Would love this http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE479CAMFFF.html.
http://www.schlage.com/en/home/keyless-deadbolt-locks/sense.html#sthash.PdruMoii.dpuf This would be ideal for me.
I would love to try this. Seems like this could help me family a lot.
I like the Century Trim in Satin Nickel. I love the idea of using a code instead of having keys. My kids are constantly loosing their keys and it makes me nervous.
I like this one- http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/BE479CENFFF.html
This would be handy to have! Since I live alone if I lock myself out by accident I would be in trouble!
Here's the one I would choose- http://www.schlage.com/en/home/keyless-deadbolt-locks/connect.html. I love the idea of being able to open the door with a key or a code, and knowing when someone enters my home is a huge plus! Sometimes I'm at work when my son gets home from school, so knowing he made it home safe is awesome.
Would love to have one!!
Nancy
I think the Schlage Sense would be great for our family. We have a few different childcare providers that are in and out of our house on a regular basis. It would be helpful for all of us.

I would choose the Schlage Connect™ Touchscreen Deadbolt with alarm with Century trim paired with Elan Lever with Century trim.
http://www.schlage.com/content/sch-us-2/en/home/products/FBE469NXCENFFFELA.html
I live in Chicago and it would be nice to have this so that my sister can also get into the house without needing a spare set of keys.
Love the lock you got, I definitely need in my new to me home! What a great idea.
But really I'm dying to know the color of paint/brand you used on the door??? The perfect color of blue.
We totally have this lock on the door into our garage! It is AWESOME! Not only can my husband unlock it before we get inside (which is amazing when your arms are full of groceries) but we have the alert sensor enabled so that when our sneaky 2 year old decides to try and venture outside the lock chimes and tells on her! We also have it linked to our Wink app and so when I'm half asleep in bed and think "Did I lock the door?" I just check the app instead of waddling my 9.5 month pregnant butt downstairs to double check! I love this lock so much!
I like the Century!
I like Schlage Sense™ Smart Deadbolt with Century trim, http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/product-listing.html. It will make coming and going from home easier, in case keys are forgotten.
http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE365CAMFFF-FE285CAMFFFACC.html
This thing is beautiful, first off! It would make a great update to my front door! The keypad ability would be perfect for my kids too since I wouldn't have to worry about them forgetting a key, they would just need a code!!! I love how easy it would be to install too!
I would get the Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt with Century trim in satin nickel. I love the look and it would be a complete upgrade from the aging wobbly doorknob lock we have now. I love this technology that helps us as we are getting older; making everyday tasks like opening doors easier.
http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE479CENFFF.html
I've been reading a lot about smart locks as an integral part of a smart home. Been wanting to put in a Schlage smart lock but I'm curious as to how it could stand up to exposure to the elements. My house lies on a East to West orientation. During summer, the afternoon sun beats mercilessly on my front door. I live in Blythe, CA and desert temps during the summer can be unforgiving.
I've been looking for ways to modernize our home and was very excited to hear all the good things about the new Schlage Sense lock with HomeKit compatibility. With our busy family of 5 growing kids and grandparents coming and going, having a Bluetooth connected lock makes perfect sense!
http://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE479CAMFFF.html
i like the Schlage Sense™ Smart Deadbolt with Century trim. i think it would make my house look more unique and would make me feel more secure.
what a great giveaway!!! Hope to win!!!!
I totally love the style, innovation and and it's practicality! This thing is truly for me since I am not a fan of bringing keys whenever I went outside the house. Thank you very much for sharing.
Hello! Where is the cute rug from?
