Donna Cohen submitted her kitchen renovation!
“My 30-year-old kitchen was non-functional. The old oven was in a corner, so we couldn’t open the oven door and the kitchen door at the same time. The small oven didn’t keep the correct temperature which made it extremely difficult to cook a meal for my family. The broken vent allowed the cooking smells to invade my home. We all smelled like last night’s dinner. The dishwasher leaked and was not useable. The refrigerator was ancient and the freezer didn’t work. Parts of the floor were peeling and not safe to walk on. The cheap ugly cabinets were dirty and no matter how much I cleaned them they still looked filthy.
My husband and I designed the new kitchen and did all the work ourselves except for the floor install.
I removed the door and replaced it with a window flanked by cabinets on each side of the new window which gave us more storage space. The placement of the oven was moved to the center of the kitchen to become the focal point. I designed, created and installed the ventilation system above the oven. I installed a stainless steel hood above the oven. I designed and installed a corner sink with a dishwasher next to it. Solid cherry wood cabinets with crown molding were installed. I added a corner display cabinet with glass about the sink. A lazy-susan with plenty of storage was incorporated. We didn’t have drawers before so my design included 9 drawers all with soft close. I put in under cabinet lighting. Granite countertops were chosen. New oak flooring was installed. New tiffany lighting was installed. We installed a large island and a seating area with table and chairs. The functionality and appearance of the kitchen have been greatly improved.”
