    Kicked in the gut.....

    By Stacy 105 Comments

Oh man. Yesterday was rotten. My husband called me mid morning to tell me he had been let go. This is the third time in the past 2 years that he has lost his job. And we have maxed out our unemployment benefits so we are hoping he finds something soon.  After the shock of it wore off and after the initial tears dried, I realized that we are lucky. Not that the timing is ever good to loose your job. Especially when you have 6 mouths to feed. But we just did our taxes and will be getting a decent tax return. Imagine if we had spent the tax return on all the things we need to fix up on our house and then got the news?  That would have been awful. At least we found out before any of it was spent.

I am sad though. I think of all my little DIY projects I had planned. I hope this doesn't affect my blog too much. I will just have to get even more creative I guess!

I know we are not the only family to be affected by this crappy economy. Many of you are in the same (sinking) boat. Fingers crossed for all of us that things get better soon.

I don't pretend to know what it is like for a man. To have the weight of being the bread winner for the family is bad enough when you have a job, let alone when you don't . I know it is harder for him than it is for me. When he got home I hugged the crap out of him. And then I started quoting one of my favorite movies,  "You is smart, you is kind..." and he finished it with "you is pretty" and we just started laughing. ( it suppose to be "you is important" but he remembered it wrong. He laughed cause he thought I was going to call him pretty and I laughed cause it was wrong :P )

I am going to take the rest of the week off.  I need to sit down with my hubby and make some plans for the future.  I will be back here Monday.

    Love you guys!!!!!!!

Way to stay positive Stacy. I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason. And while I'm not super religious I read this a while back and whenever things get tough it always comes to mind:

"If GOD brings you to it, HE will bring you through it."

I see good things coming your way.

So sorry to hear, but stay strong, when I door closes another one opens. I am not one to pray but I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and that even if right now you can't see it, one day it will reveal itself to you. I know how hard it is to stay positive when life throws you a curve ball, my daughter was diagnosed with juvenil diebeties 2 weeks ago and I am still struggling to understand why. I just try to focus on the positive and know that something positive can come from this experience. Keeping you in my thoughts.

He was able to get a couple of part time temporary jobs but nothing permanent. We were both fortunate enough to be eligible for Social Security so that is a God send and we have been making it on that for the past year. Seriously, I wish the best for your family and hope that your husband will find work soon. My husband lost his job two years ago. He was getting a very good salary at the time. I work full time and was able to pick up the insurance but the decrease in income was going to be a big burden! I then read on a blog about how she made money on ebay. I had done ebay a few years before ...So I started selling again. We made it through the tough times, learned to live frugally and now that he has a new job, we continue to live the frugal way. I still sell on ebay and enjoy it. And Life is Good.

Words can't describe what a horrible feeling that is but I'm glad you are able to smile through it. It is so tough and you are right that this economy sucks! I will pray that everything works out well for you all soon!

Oh Stacey I'm so sorry. My hubby lost his job just after our first child was born and I was not working either and we had just bought a house. It was a horrible feeling. Hubby had a few temp jobs until he was offered the opportunity to work in IT from home and has been able to watch his 2 kids grow and we all love having him around. When the bills get too high and we are hit with a run of bad luck I just look at all the things we do have and people we have in our lives and I know I am blessed, whatever life throws at us. And yes, it does make you a lot thriftier. :) Keep your chin up. Remember its not the end, but the beginning of new opportunities. And most time a change is good. x Julie

That is such a terrible, horrible, no-good very bad day to lose your job. We've been through it twice--it stinks! Please email me and let me know what kind of work he does. You are in Utah, right? We have a lot of contacts and would love to help if possible.

So sorry about your husband's job. I lost 3 jobs in 5 years, but I didn't have the support of a spouse to give me a big hug. What does he do for a living? I wish you both the best and with you supporting each other thru the tough time I am sure things will come out great.

Stacy, I am sorry to hear the news of your husband's job. We have been there a few times as well. The longest stretch we had was 11 months and it was horrible. I went to work to help us get by, but it was still so hard to make it. I think your blog is great so I am sure you married a creative man as well who will find another job soon! I will be thinking of you and your family.

      Take Care,

So sorry. I have friends, he's got a builder background. He lost that when the company he'd worked at for many years folded when everything else did. He got a job at HOME DEPOT!! It wouldn't be what your hubs made any more than it was what he made, but something. And benefits. And they know you... just a thought. His wife, my gf, is a substance abuse counselor and with cutbacks has lost 3 jobs in that time. She's also an author, public speaker, educator, but no one has funds to pay her either. Good luck to all of you.

I know the feeling. Five years ago my husband lost his job of 16 years, so that is how I ended-up in my current job (it was closer to home and paid a lot more) because we weren't sure how long his job search would take.

His job along with several hundered others at his company were lost due to corporate greed sending jobs overseas.

Positive note - he is now working for a family owned company that truly cares about their employees and has been voted as one of the top 100 places to work in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area!

I'm sorry to hear about your husband and the situation it puts your family in. It's a rough economy out there and it seems like there are NO good jobs left. My husband is self employed and it seems like when we are struggling the most (he is in school full time, working, I have thyroid cancer) something else happens like last weekend our only car that fits my entire family decides to blow up and we have to borrow money from his parents. Life is so hard sometimes, but I always feel like Heavenly Father is trying to teach us some sort of lesson. So hopefully one day you can look back and see the things you do have and realize hey we made it! Best of luck hope he can find a good reliable job :)

Love you for keeping your spirit, Stacey!
I've been through a war, had a baby, no money and no idea when any would come in. Far away from my husband...
Everything comes and goes. And we stay. Stronger. More grateful.
      Better people, I guess...

I am so sorry to hear this sad news. I will keep you in my thoughts and hope your husband is able to find something quickly! I know the stress of providing for a family can be overwhelming even when a job is present. I can't imagine trying to do it working with a very limited income due to unemployment.
      Hugs to you.

Hang in there. Yes, this will make you creative in many ways, but you have a good attitude and that will make all the difference. My hubby lost his job three days before Christmas. Sigh. It has not been easy, but I have been blessed with a boss that cares and he has broken a rule to let me teach extra classes. I am stretched thin, but it will be okay. ~Kelly

Stacy, I'm so sorry! I understand your heartache so well. My husband has been unemployed since he graduated with his MBA a year and a half ago. I've had quite a few heart to heart chats with God over the whole ordeal. I will definitely keep you and your family in our prayers.
