Do you remember this show? I realize I am totally dating myself here (as if the fact that I have 4 kids didn't already date me). I think it was called Out of This World. The main character Evie could stop time if she put her fingers together like that. A little current of electricity would go between her fingers and BAM! Time and everyone but her would freeze. Do you know how many times in my life I have fantasized that I could do that???
(confession) Do you know how many times I have tried to put my fingers together to see if maybe it would work???
If I could have just ONE super human power it would be this.
The baby wakes up from nap earlier than expected... BAM! More time to clean and work on projects.
The kids wake up an hour earlier in the morning.... BAM! An extra hour of sleep.
Someone says something rude to you...BAM! A few extra minutes to think of something good to say back.
I could go on forever! Who wouldn't like a little extra time???
I am kind of in a funk lately. I am not an organized person by nature but I usually try really hard to at least fake it. Lately I haven't even tried. My blogging calender is a mess!!! My regular calender is a mess!!! My house is a mess!!! I know the fact that it is summer time plays into it. I know a lot of things play into it. So my question to you is...
HOW DO YOU HANDLE IT? How do you handle it when you feel out of whack, or a little extra disorganized, or when you all of a sudden feel like there are less hours in the day.
I am going to take the weekend to try to sort thing out. I am going to organize my office and make a new calender. And I may or may not consume a large quantity of chocolate...

Oh my gosh! I loved that show! I had totally forgotten about it until I saw this. And...I am feeling just like you lately! Just blah! Everything is a mess - and I feel like a mess, too. Chocolate will surely help! lol I'm finding that just taking a minute for myself to do nothing is helping a lot. Good luck to you - hope this weekend goes well!
I totally remember that show and here's a bit of trivia: The girl who played Evie has a sister that owns a bakery. They were on Food Networks 'Cupcake Wars' together :)
1. I loved that show when I was a kid!
2. If I could freeze time I might be tempted not to start for atleast a year when EVERYTHING was right!
3. When things get crazy I call in reinforcements.. helpers great and small
4. When all else fails I go for a run collect my thoughts and get started all over again!
Hang in there.. things will fall into place and when they do you breathe a big sigh of relief!
I want that power too! Please?
I know the feeling! I'm having a hard time keeping track of everything I'm supposed to do. I guess summer isn't a vacation for the mom! What I do to get on top of things when I feel like that is make a list. Then cross off the things that don't really need to be done. Then start working at the most important things. And get help if you need it! Get someone to take the kids for a day, or hire a teenager to help. Oh, and don't forget to take care of yourself.
I loved that show too! I thought I was so cool because I had the same quilt on my bed that she did. haha! That superpower be so great, especially in the morning before I've had a cup of coffee! :)
Oh. Geez, I might be too old for that show..... It looks kind of familiar but I don't really remember it. It was probably on during my partying and staying out all night days. I am also feeling so disorganized. Things no sooner get put away and then they're a mess again. And, I have been home all alone this entire week! I can't even blame the kids.....
I have never seen that show, but I have wished for that exact super power. I am in a similar place as you right now. I don't like this place and I am trying to motivate myself to get out of it and get going while still having fun with the family. The more I think about it the more I like the minimalist mentality. I am seriously considering downsizing to the only the things we need/absolutely love and nothing else. I am sure this will take me a while, but it just might be worth it.
I did this during spring cleaning this year....downsized & organized 5 "hotspots" of my house. The areas I've enjoyed the most benefit from were: kids' toy organization & pantry organization. Now the kids (3 & 4) can put their own toys away (they have less of them and they know where each and every one of them goes). Organized pantry really saved time prepping meals (and it's pretty to look at too!)
I also don't overload my calendar with lots of activities...but allow for intentional downtime & lots of creative free play for the kiddos.
When all else fades, go to your happy place - wherever that is. For me, it is a clean kitchen :-)
(yours is gorgeous btw....I'd want to spend all day there!)
Wouldn't more time be fantastic?!? I use google calendar a LOT to keep everything organized. You can even set up different calendars that show on one. So I have one for bills, birthdays, other stuff, etc. I then add an x in front of the stuff I have completed (if I need to remember that I completed, such as paid a certain bill each month.) House stuff....well, I'm not organized AT ALL!!! My house is a mess, I can't keep up and I only have one child. Working 32 hours a week, plus an hour of travel time each day just makes me tired, plus I want to spend as much time with my daughter as possible once I'm home. When she sleeps I don't want to clean because I want to relax and/or sew. So if you find your magic power can you share with all of us how to get ours? :-D
hmmm, I think my super power would be to create more time in the day, lol.
If you figure out the answer to being overwhelmed, please let me know! because I feel like this a lot lately. I've tried to do an "editorial" calendar for my blog...it's helping. But, I really need to write more posts ahead of time, and I just can't seem to do that. I sort of have a cleaning schedule. I'm also WAY behind in my scrapbooking. I feel like if I stay on top of one thing, everything else goes downhill...!
HA! Thats great! I wish I could wiggle my nose and make the house clean like on I dream of Genie... And I may or may not have tried it once or twice :)
I think the best thing to get started is to just start with a list of priorities, and see what is the most important to get done, to be honest when my kids were little and we had time off of the school schedule, things were more laid back and it was nice, all the dust, will still be there long after the kids are not (mine are 31,26 and 24) so I am REALLY dating myself!
You will get back in the swing of things, its just harder when schedules change.
Have a Happy 4th of July
Oh and I do not remember that show as much as "Bewitched" and "I dream of Jeannie", now I liked those ladies super powers...."wiggle wiggle of my nose...oh well it does not work, oh I will cross my arms and nod my head...well that did not work either :)
I enjoy reading posts like this. Why? Because it helps me know that it's ok to have days . . .weeks . . months (YIKES!) like this! I find that it is worse in the summer - between the heat, the kids wanting to play outside all day (they are too little to be out there by themselves!), and lots of running things really start to get behind at home. For me, I watch the weather report and try to pick one day a week that is either going to be cooler so I won't sweat to death or rainy so the kids have to stay inside :-) I also make sure to do my Morning Routine, Afternoon Routine and Before Bed Routine every day - by doing those the basics at least stay caught up; I figure I can catch up on some of the other stuff once it is cold again!
I find if I am overwhelmed I just do one thing and forget about the rest and then all of a sudden I get motivated to do just one more. I agree with Joyce- if you have young ones use summer to be more laid back because they are only young for such a little while. There is nothing wrong with wanting everything to be nice and organized but give yourself a break-cut back on the non essentials and remember you've had a big change in your life again and that has added to your stress. Take a big deep breath and just do one thing. I am sending big hugs and love to you-can you feel my arms around you-relax.
I loved this show as a child. My first daughter was named after this girl - Evie Louise. I am so glad you posted this as I could never remember the name of the show and everybody would assume I was talking about Charmed whenever I would describe a girl stopping time!
Not old, nostalgic!

Zoloft.
Yes, you're dating yourself, but the fact that I know exactly what you're talking about dates me too. :) I agree and I would love that super power as well.
xoxo
didn't that show have the song "If you'd like wish on a star"? Or am i thinking of something else. I remember watching that though! I think that would be a great super power....right up there with disapparating.
Diving into chocolate always, works! And I dive into my planner to figure out a plan to keep me sane and make the changes I need to get me back to organized. Always adjusting, is an important key in staying organized, since one form of organization doesn't last for long when you're a mom. Keeping your nose in your planner and mapping out what you want your life to look like ensures you're living by your own plan and will keep you more organized!
I recently found this blog http://dhwilson.blogspot.com/ and I love it. It reminds me to live in the moment and count my blessings even when life is crazy. Maybe there'll be some encouragement there for you too. :)
I could totally use that super power, too! I somehow managed to prewrite some posts to autolaunch this week while we're on vacation, but we have another vacation week coming up at the end of the month that I'm pretty sure I won't be ready for. You always seem to have it completely together, so I'm sure this weekend's reorganization will smooth things out for you.
OMG YES! I loved that show! I still think about that power and how nice it would be to have!! Evie Garland — and I can totally sing the theme song right now.
Would you like to swing on a star? Carry moonbeams home in a jar?
Oh yeah. That just happened. Love your blog and love that you referenced my favorite childhood show! :)
