Habitat For Humanity & How YOU Can Help

    By Stacy 8 Comments

I once wrote a post about loving our homes, no matter what they looked like. It is something I feel strongly about. I know that I sometimes take for granted that I even have a home of my own. I tend to focus on the fact that the dishwasher is broke, the flooring doesn't match, there a giant hole in my couch, and the lack of storage. A home is more than flooring and walls. Home is a place where we are safe. Home is a place where we can spend time with loved ones. Home is where memories are made.

I just adore Habitat For Humanity and all they do! I love that they strive to provide housing for everyone because it breaks my heart that so many do not have a home to feel safe in and to create memories. I love that the future homeowners are so involved in the process. They not only give people a new home but self reliance. I have had the opportunity to work with them a few times over the years and have such a respect for their work, ideas, and goals. I am SO EXCITED that YOU can help. That part is coming up in just a bit...

One of my favorite experience so far was when I was able to work with a mother and daughter who were about to move in to their new home after a very long process of working on building it. They had very few belongings so I came up with a plan. As part of the blogging conference called SNAP, as well as teaming up with Home Depot and our local IKEA, we were able to provide them with furniture for their bedrooms and living area. I loved organizing this and seeing everyone's excitement as they helped customize some of the unfinished furniture that was donated.

In connection with Home Depot, Shane and I both have helped with Habitat builds. This build in New Orleans was Shane's first experience and he came home on such a natural high! Service is amazing :)

I have a very easy way that you can help this month. Actually quite a few easy ways :)

Starting today up until April 30th you can:

Share: For every #HomeIsTheKey social post Nissan will donate $1, up to $250,000! It is so easy to type out a hashtag. I literally takes a few seconds. Or you can re-tweet mine. Even faster :)

    Shop:
*At Home Stores: Purchase Habitat-branded scented candles with 100
percent of proceeds benefiting Habitat or donate at register.
*HSN Cares and Ballard Designs: Habitat will be the featured nonprofit
partner for HSN and Ballard Designs in April. Shoppers can contribute
    throughout the month.
*Sur La Table: Give back with each purchase of the Scanpan line of
    cookware products and donate at-register.
*Kum & Go Convenience Stores: Customers will have the opportunity to
donate to Habitat at checkout. Continuing its annual in-store fundraising
competition for the fourth year, Kum & Go will build a new Habitat home
in the community that raises the most donations.

Visit: Habitat.org/homeisthekey to make a donation.

I hope that you will chose at least one of these options this month. Everyone deserves a home and every little bit helps.

I wrote this post on behalf of Habitat for Humanity because I believe in the program and love what it does for others. Habitat did not compensate me monetarily but did send a few of the items that are being sold at the above mentioned stores as a thank you. The thoughts and opinions expressed are all mine :)

I'm sorry that you had that experience. Habitat and At Home confirmed that 100% of the proceeds from sales of the special edition candles will go to Habitat. They will ensure that the folks at the store in your area are aware of this. I hope you'll consider supporting this great cause :)

I have always supported Habitat for humanity. I shop the Restore they have in Fox Valley Mall Aurora Ill for many years now...& that supports their agenda. I wish there were audio & cameras @ check out per shift do management Gould go back & view & hear what female cashier was telling customers. $1.00(10%) was going to Habitat, one guy said"I'll give you a dollar, but I do not burn camdles @ home" I have no idea what he ended up doing, just heard that part,I said I did... very unsettling to know it was misconstrued by an employee... customer of @ Home,

I love the Restore too! I'm hoping that employee gets the correct information. Probably an honest mistake. I don't really burn candles either. What are your favorite ways to scent your home? Fresh flowers and citrus peels are my favorite :)
