    A "Green" Giveaway! {Wifi Programmable Thermostat}

    By Stacy 100 Comments

While at the Home Depot event for Stiggy's Dogs we were able to add energy efficient products to the home so their energy bills would be less each month. Going' green to save some green $$$!

Some of the things we replaced were the furnace filters, light bulbs, and the caulk around windows and doors. Some of the things we added were insulation around the water heater and heat ducts, insulation behind light switch covers, and a programmable thermostat.

These are all inexpensive ways to save money and make you home ready for winter. Anything that will keep me warm and save me money I am all for :)

I was lucky enough to come home with the *NEW* HoneyWell WIFI Programmable Thermostat (AKA a new gadget my hubby got giddy over).

The most exciting thing about the thermostat (yes, they are exciting....just ask my hubby) is that you can control your thermostat via your smart phone or a computer! Why would this matter? Because if you leave your home for a long period of time like for a vacation, you can turn off your heater/AC unit to save money and then on your way home you can turn it back on so that when you get home your house is a comfortable temperature.

Oh man! I wish I would have had one of these when we lived in Las Vegas. We would turn off the air when we left town to visit family and even when we got home at midnight the house would be so hot we couldn't put the kids in their beds because their bedding was literally HOT. W would have to hold our sleeping kids while standing under the ceiling fan until the house was cooled down enough to put them in bed.

This thermostat also has online help available if you ever need it, a free app for your phone, programmable for 7 days, and a touchscreen control panel. And when it is used as directed you can save 33% on your energy bill!!!

    So do you want one???

One of you will be randomly selected by Rafflecopter to win one.... a $149.000 value!!!

The thermostat in my home needs updating because you can't program it. So when we are not at home the temperature is the same.

Our hot water is connected to the steam heater, but in the summer when the heat is not used we have to turn the heat on to get enough hot water for a shower or bath, what a waste.

I have had my eye on a wifi programmable thermostat for some time - and agree that they can be pretty exciting :-) We recently added extra-thick (r-19) insulation to our unfinished basement and have noticed a nice difference in the way our home holds its temperature. Next up are all of the light bulbs throughout our home... I'm hoping to change out every light bulb in every fixture in our home to those nifty (thrifty!) energy-efficient bulbs. They make them in a variety of lighting and design styles - so even our exposed bulbs can be more environmentally friendly :-) Thanks so much!

I would love to be able to turn up the heat from my cozy bed upstairs! Right now the only thermostat is downstairs in the center of the house AND it has to be set to heat or cold, so in the Spring and Fall when the temps fluctuate drastically I end up waking up in the middle of the night freezing!

My windows in my house seriously need to be updated to make them more energy efficient. They're the older aluminum framed windows, which I swear only conducts cold temps into the house when it's cold outside! My external walls also need insulating--my goal over the next few years is actually to install insulation and make my home much more energy efficie t and cozy in the winter (and cooler in the summer).

WOW! This would be fantastic - living in Fl its hard to adjust your AC to handle the hotter parts of the day - if you leave your air set at 76 or 77 in the morning - your poor ac handler has to run all day to keep up - raising the temp before we leave in the morning to 80 or 81 helps, but then when were home later the house is hot - can't find that happy medium.

We don't have a programmable thermostat so I think that is what needs to be updated to be more energy efficient!

Thanks for the giveaway. I love the idea you can program your thermostat from your smart phone. What a great idea.

We definitely need to update our windows. All the screens were damaged from previous owners and the seals might as well not even be there! What a fabulous giveaway! xo

Our refrigerator is getting old and probably is not as efficient as the newer models- as well as many of our other kitchen appliances.

Air leaks in around a few windows that don't seal properly, and there is a major draft under the front and back door!

Our home is very old and needs more insulation in the attic.
