While at the Home Depot event for Stiggy's Dogs we were able to add energy efficient products to the home so their energy bills would be less each month. Going' green to save some green $$$!
Some of the things we replaced were the furnace filters, light bulbs, and the caulk around windows and doors. Some of the things we added were insulation around the water heater and heat ducts, insulation behind light switch covers, and a programmable thermostat.
These are all inexpensive ways to save money and make you home ready for winter. Anything that will keep me warm and save me money I am all for :)
I was lucky enough to come home with the *NEW* HoneyWell WIFI Programmable Thermostat (AKA a new gadget my hubby got giddy over).
The most exciting thing about the thermostat (yes, they are exciting....just ask my hubby) is that you can control your thermostat via your smart phone or a computer! Why would this matter? Because if you leave your home for a long period of time like for a vacation, you can turn off your heater/AC unit to save money and then on your way home you can turn it back on so that when you get home your house is a comfortable temperature.
Oh man! I wish I would have had one of these when we lived in Las Vegas. We would turn off the air when we left town to visit family and even when we got home at midnight the house would be so hot we couldn't put the kids in their beds because their bedding was literally HOT. W would have to hold our sleeping kids while standing under the ceiling fan until the house was cooled down enough to put them in bed.
This thermostat also has online help available if you ever need it, a free app for your phone, programmable for 7 days, and a touchscreen control panel. And when it is used as directed you can save 33% on your energy bill!!!
So do you want one???
One of you will be randomly selected by Rafflecopter to win one.... a $149.000 value!!!

I think I probably should update my windows at some point. But, boy so expensive!
The thermostat in my home needs updating because you can't program it. So when we are not at home the temperature is the same.
This would be really handy in FL, I hope I win
This would be great! There is definately something wrong with my thermostat!
I need new windows, terribly. Cover them in plastic in the winter.
Checked out prices, way to expensive.
How awesome! My husband is always telling me to turn it off so this would be a lot more handy. Thanks!
we need an energy efficent fridge
I need an energy efficient fridge and stove, most definitely!
Ohh! We are making some changes to our home to help with re-sale this summer (military family moving to a new post). & we NEED THIS! Our home was built in 1952 & I think it still has the original thermostat! It's OLD!!!
ha! I was just looking for a thermostat that would work with my new iphone! thanks for the entry!
We got new windows last year to help with efficiency. It would be awesome to get a new thermostat like this. The one we have now drives me nuts!
This would be nice to have. Just spent a fortune on solar panels. What a savings on our bill!
Our hot water is connected to the steam heater, but in the summer when the heat is not used we have to turn the heat on to get enough hot water for a shower or bath, what a waste.
I should update the windows in my house. We've lived in the house for almost a year, but can't afford to replace them yet.
I would love to update my 1970's windows
I need a new thermostat for upstairs. The one we have is a basic programmable one, which doesn't allow us to put it on hold for a given number of days!
Defiantly need this!
I have had my eye on a wifi programmable thermostat for some time - and agree that they can be pretty exciting :-) We recently added extra-thick (r-19) insulation to our unfinished basement and have noticed a nice difference in the way our home holds its temperature. Next up are all of the light bulbs throughout our home... I'm hoping to change out every light bulb in every fixture in our home to those nifty (thrifty!) energy-efficient bulbs. They make them in a variety of lighting and design styles - so even our exposed bulbs can be more environmentally friendly :-) Thanks so much!
I would love to be able to turn up the heat from my cozy bed upstairs! Right now the only thermostat is downstairs in the center of the house AND it has to be set to heat or cold, so in the Spring and Fall when the temps fluctuate drastically I end up waking up in the middle of the night freezing!
Our house actually has several inches less insulation than it should, really cool builders. That would definitely make it more energy efficient.
We just bought a house, so have lots to do! New windows would be a good start, AND save us $!
My kids- they start the dishwasher several times a day! A programmable thermostat would definitely help as well!
We've been wanting to upgrade our thermostat - this would be very, very awesome!
I'd love to upgrade our hotwater heater - so old and inefficient!
We need new doors! Ours are so old that they let tons of air in and out!
We need to seal our windows...and replace a few lights :)
My husband and I would love this!!!!!!
^ i didn't get to finish my comment ^ grrrrr
We need to reseal all our doors pronto!!!
What doesn't my home need?! We just bought our first house and it was built in the mid 80s, so there is a lot of room for improvement on energy efficiency! We would like to replace the windows at some point with double pane ones.
Definitely need more insulation
We definitely need better windows.
We recently got all new windows and doors, so the thermostat would be a great addition to our efforts
Our television needs to be more energy efficient, but that awesome thermostat would help as well!
I think my thermostat needs upgrading. This WiFi thermostat would help us save energy. Thank you for this giveaway!
My washer and dryer! I have a clothesline to help, but they are definitely sucking lots of juice and with two kids you do a lot of laundry!
I keep telling my hubby we need something like this, so if I could win one I wouldn't have to keep bugging him and just prove to him I was right. :)
I think our biggest issue is the big glass sliding doors but honestly the whole house could use some weatherization.
i need central heat and air. Soon have to get a new house d/t the road in front of our house taking our house d/t eminent domain. thanks
This would be wonderful! Anything to help with our not so energy efficient house.
I need to replace my weather striping and caulk.
We've only replaced about half the windows in our house, but the others really need to be done!
My windows! They are the original windows - from 1954!
Fun fun giveaway! I would love to be able to program my thermostat from another location...I always end up out of town before I realize I didn't turn it down :( We also have a bit of caulking that needs to be replaced,
Thanks for the great giveaway!

This would be incredible in the house!
I love this age of modern technology! I would love that!
I just heard of this and so was very interested in your blogging about it--would so love to win this as my gran son is building me a solar panel.

Just got a smartphone so now I need a new thermostat. It would be so nice to turn up the temp on my way home!
We need a new washing machine - the one we are using is over 10 years old!
Woo Hoo, we would love to have the thermostat.
I would love to upgrade our front door and make it more efficient! What a great giveaway!
We saw this the last time we were at Home Depot and LOVED it!
I was just telling my husband about these two weeks ago when we had to replace our AC compressor! Would love to have one but too cheap to buy it for myself!
I live in a 1940 victory style home (meaning the post war humble abode) and everything needs updating!!!!
We are trying to purchase a fixer-upper that hasn't been renovated since it was built--1960. I have no idea where to begin; so much needs done!
This would be awesome. Almost a year ago I replaced my furnace and put in the cheapest thermostat. This would be an awesome upgrade.
Our house has very old windows, and I think our basement is badly insulated, a lot of heat is being lost that way judging by our gas bill.
What a great idea, I would love this!
We could definitely invest in a new refrigerator, ours seems to run all the time! That and adding insulation in the attick.
We need a new thermostat. Ours likes to reset to below 55 degrees, in the middle of the night, in winter. We live in the mountains and it gets below zero sometimes. I'd love a thermostat that actually stays where you program it.
We're building a new house, I could totally use one of these. We'll end up buying at least one when our house is done so this will help a lot!
Weve been looking at these for our remodel!!!
anything that will help lower our energy bill would amazing!
L would love to update our thermostat as it is not working well and also our windows need replacing - home depot to the rescue!
I need a new thermostat! Mine is so old and came with the house. It is preprogrammed to the old owners settings and we don't know how to reprogram it!
97 year old house, 50 yr old thermostat. Would love to have one to reduce the heating bills.
I'd love to have an energy efficient water heater!
Oh, boy. Just one thing? A new furnace to go with the thermostat would be nice, but that's not happening. Some double-glazed replacement windows. Still need three more. I'll count that as one.
We have one more set of windows to replace to make our home more energy efficient. After that we plan to install a tankless water heater.
Any way to save money would be great!
Half of the windows in our home are original, and I figure if a spider can get in through the cracks I'd say they are pretty inefficient in keeping the cold and heat out/in.
Would love this! My hubby and I can't find that "perfect temp" so this would help.
OMGOSH - we just started talking about one of these and needing to update our super out of date one but the budget is super tight and THIS would Be AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Our house is brand new, so it is pretty energy efficient. I would like to install a clothesline, so that we don't have to use the dryer so much though.
This is awesome! I'd love ot own one.
Somehow we have to make it that the cold wind of the Winter does not come into the house through the fireplace if we do not have a plastic on it.
This is great!! Wow!
The doors need the stuff around the edges and the front door needs replaced. Its a 1940's door. This is a fun giveaway!
what a maazing giveaway! LOVE it, we are so behind on this and seriously should get one ourselves!! Thanks a ton, love your blog
I think the appliances are the least energy efficient thing in my household... They definitely need to be updated soon. At least my garage freezer :)
My windows in my house seriously need to be updated to make them more energy efficient. They're the older aluminum framed windows, which I swear only conducts cold temps into the house when it's cold outside! My external walls also need insulating--my goal over the next few years is actually to install insulation and make my home much more energy efficie t and cozy in the winter (and cooler in the summer).
We still have some 1960s windows that we're saving up to replace.
WOW! This would be fantastic - living in Fl its hard to adjust your AC to handle the hotter parts of the day - if you leave your air set at 76 or 77 in the morning - your poor ac handler has to run all day to keep up - raising the temp before we leave in the morning to 80 or 81 helps, but then when were home later the house is hot - can't find that happy medium.
Thanks for the giveaway!
My windows!
I need to replace my windows with more efficient ones. It's just not doable right now with the economy as it is. I would love to win the thermostat!!
I'd have to agree with everyone when I say WINDOWS! You can feel the cold air coming through the cracks around them :( But right now that isn't in our budget. Hopefully before it gets really cold here.
We have finished replacing every window in the house, changed to a tankless water heater, new central air and furnace...need to replace the thermostat is on the to do list asap!
My husband and I have actually talked about buying one of these!
I've actually been considering getting one of these for a while but haven't decided on the "right one". Would love to give this one a shot!
Oh boy! A programmable thermostat would be great - especially one that can be managed remotely! Not sure how much longer our heating and cooling systems are going to last so winning a new thermostat would be a great savings.
New windows would definitely help with being energy efficient..but I'm realizing lightbulbs are SO easy to change out. We'll definitely be doing that asap! THanks!!
We don't have a programmable thermostat so I think that is what needs to be updated to be more energy efficient!
Thanks for the giveaway. I love the idea you can program your thermostat from your smart phone. What a great idea.
We definitely need to update our windows. All the screens were damaged from previous owners and the seals might as well not even be there! What a fabulous giveaway! xo
Our refrigerator is getting old and probably is not as efficient as the newer models- as well as many of our other kitchen appliances.

We need to weather strip the front door.
We definitely need new windows, we can feel cool air coming through in the winter!
Air leaks in around a few windows that don't seal properly, and there is a major draft under the front and back door!
Our home is very old and needs more insulation in the attic.
I would LOVE to install new windows! And get a new AC unit.
