My boys have been obsessed with St. Patrick's Day since they were tiny. I couldn't even tell you exactly why. Maybe it is the thought of catching a leprechaun or all the gold, but they have gotten really into a holiday that to be honest, I would probably have glossed over otherwise.
Some years, I make rainbow bread!
Maybe my boys love it so much because I am Irish on my mother's side and it is their heritage seeping out. Who knows. Because of their love of the holiday, I try to make an effort to celebrate it at least a little bit. I normally throw something together at the last second but this year I actually planned something ahead of time.
I bought 4" clay pots (they are SUPER inexpensive!) and painted them with some craft paint. I added some potting soil and planted some wheat grass. If you have never planted wheat grass with your kids, you need to! It is so easy and so fun for your kids to watch since it grows so fast. These pictured are at a week's worth of growth. My kids like to measure the grass every morning to see how much it grows per day.
I took advantage of the chalkboard to write a little something even though my boys told me kissing is gross.
Toss a few chocolate gold coins on the table and you are almost done!
The napkin holders are just paper. I created a rainbow stripe pattern in photoshop and printed it out on card stock. I just cut them out and taped them around the napkin and there you have it!
Here is the printable for you to use.
So there you have it! SUPER easy and something your kids can help you with.
Do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day? Do you have any Irish recipes you could share with me that are tried and true? I only have one and I would love to try something new :)

Might I ask where you get your wheat grass from? Did you start yours from seeds?
Stacy
Yes, from seed :) I have a bucket of red hard wheat in our food storage that I used. You can buy it for cheap (and in smaller quantities) from the grocery store. I soak them for a day in water and then place them on top of the soil. I cover them in plastic wrap for a couple of days until they start to sprout. After I take the plastic off, I keep a spray bottle handy and let the kids spray them a couple times a day until the grass is about an inch tall.
