So now I want to know what kind of window treatments do you have in your home? Why did you chose them?

Both you and your husband seem very natural on camera... have you thought about maybe utilizing his help with some
"honey do" type diy tutorials?
I love your "cottage" home and your blog, btw!

Awww! Thank you! He is getting more and more used to the idea of filming videos so maybe one day he will help with a tutorial.

Great video.
We live in town and it's about 30' from our windows to the street or our neighbors windows. We have sheers with valances over them in the downstairs, then the upstairs has sheers with valances and panels {to help with darkening the rooms}. I love the Alvine Spets sheers from ikea...they're more like a lace...very european {which is what I grew up with}.
In the back of our house we have no curtains or blinds. There's no one back there, and I love how open and bright it feels without them.

PS. Are there any great decor and renovation message boards that you recommend?
I used to be on thenest.com, but there's no one there anymore.
Stacy
I am not on any so I am not sure.

I am jealous of all your privacy in the back of your house! I would love that. I love all IKEA's curtains. Inexpensive and pretty :)

I love the look of curtains, but I also like blinds for added privacy. I like bamboo roman shades a lot too! Cute video by the way!

We have just normal curtains in the bedrooms and blackout shades in the baby's room.

I had to go look at your before and after shots of the dining room window. I love the curtains! Big improvement. I never have been crazy about Venetian blinds, but, guess what, I have them all over the first floor. Well, in the LR I have lace sheers in front of them so they're not so noticeable. I'd go with fancy curtains any day, but we definitely need blinds, whether Venetian or roller, for privacy at night. And over the years I've come round to the idea that we need sheers covering the windows during the day for privacy. New neighbors who have no window coverings at all convinced me of that. We really are in a fishbowl, anybody can see in, especially at night. Blinds do have the advantage of taking a bit less space and several ways to adjust them for varying needs. The vertical ones just strike me as big and clumsy.
This reminds me of a lawyers office I visited recently in a remodeled old, old house. They left many of the interesting architectural features of the house, and stained woodwork, which looks really nice. But they had these overwhelmingly large window treatments. Worst part was the addition of a decorative tape on the edges with hundreds of little tassels (many large windows in the room we were in). I wanted desperately to grab a pair of scissors and cut them all off. Way too busy and fussy. A real distraction, especially for a meeting room. Curtains are there to soften the hard edges of a window, not to be the focal point of the room. They should add a bit of warmth, softness and subtle texture to an interior, as well as control sun glare, and offer privacy.
