I wanted to share a few observations with you that I have made about linky parties. I not only host one, but I link up to other blog’s linky parties. So I see it from both points of view.
One of the biggest mistakes I see is in the photo. Be careful what picture you pick. I see a lot of people choosing the “before” picture. Usually before pics are not appealing. People also don’t know that it is the before. They look at your link and they don’t like what they see so they don’t click on it. Little do they know that you really have an amazing project!
CROP. Often I see pictures that don’t make sense. I can’t tell what the object is. I click on the link and find that the person didn’t crop it so that the best part of the picture will show. When it brings up all your picture options, instead of clicking on “select”, click on “crop”. It is right next to the select button.
Edit you photos so they will be appealing to people. A dark photo will get less clicks. You don’t have to have photoshop. There are a ton of free photo editing programs out there. Picnik and photobucket are 2 I have used. If you are truly trying to get traffic to your blog it is worth the extra time to edit your photos.
Link back. I know of a lot of blogs that go through their links and delete the ones that don’t somehow link back. There is also a new option for link hosts to set it up so you can’t link up without a back ink in the actual post you are linking up. Why you ask? Well, I (and the other blogs) are sending traffic your way FOR FREE. By linking back to your host you are returning the favor. I have about 250 links each week that get up to 9,000 views. That is a lot of traffic! I don’t require you to post a link in the post (although it is nice) but put my linky button somewhere or add my blog to your linky list. Just something to help spread the word along. Thanks!
Link title. Don’t put your name or a big long description. Keep it to the point. People are skimming all the links quickly and want to know what your project is. That is not the time to be clever with a funny description.
Why did I just post all of that? Because you work so hard on your projects and I want you to be able to maximize the amount of people who see your amazing work! I can go into inlinkz.com and see how many views each link has. The ones with great pictures and good titles get the most views.
I hope that helped some of you. Maybe they all didn’t apply to you but hopefully you learned something :) No, lets see what you have been up to!!!!
*Max of 2 projects
*Link up new things and not things you have already linked up before
*No etsy shops, things you are selling, or giveaways please
*Visit some of the other links and leave comments. We all love comments :)
